Has anyone seen any Stingers in the wild?

Saw a blue one in the parking lot at Lowe’s in Yorktown N.Y. the other day. That’s the second time I’ve seen it there in the exact same spot. Last night, on my way home from work around 815 PM I saw some familiar looking tail lights merging onto the Taconic Parkway from the Yorktown entrance. I was about 300 yards or so behind and gunned it to catch up. Low and behold it was my second Stinger sighting in the same week! Black Stinger being Driven by a woman. I drove up along side, held there for a moment and she didn’t notice. I passed her then up ahead someone was pulled over by a Trooper. The next exit was mine so as I got off She passed on my left and now she knew. We gave each other big smiles and thumbs up! Was pretty cool. I lost count but maybe seen 10 in 19 months of ownership...

Was out and about, which included getting an estimate on my damaged LR rim: "just get a new wheel", they said, because the cost to repair that much damage would come close to the same cost as a brand new one.

I pulled into Auto Zone on 7800 South in West Jordan, and saw this Ceramic Silver.

An Auto Zone employee was helping a customer at their car and I asked if he knew who the owner of the Stinger was and he said, "Yeah, that's my boss's car." I took the second pic and as I was about to walk to the front door, the boss/owner came out. We two were coincidentally questioned on the spot by a random guy who wanted to know "what car is THAT?" :D So, we let him figure it out and said, yeah this is a very cool car.

Then I asked the other Stinger jockey a couple of intro questions, such as "How long have you had it?" And, "What do you think about the car?" And he had to tell me a tale of woe. I said, go for it, I'll take the long version right now.

He shared a horror story of dealing with Jerry Seiner of Salt Lake, and Kia Corp: over his first Stinger, a White Pearl GT (which he had bought in May, if I recall correctly), when the engine suddenly quit, dead, on him and he coasted off to the side of the road.

SEVEN WEEKS later, Kia finally refused the warranty because he had put in aftermarket air intakes. (When Kia is good, they are very, very good: but when the are bad, they are Horrid.) Because Kia refused the warranty, Lemon Law was not an option (I've never heard!?). They gave him three options: keep the car after they put the engine back together, but it wasn't going to work (Jerry Seiner said he had thrown a rod, which is completely bogus; as he knows cars and knows what a thrown rod is like); I can't remember the second option, but it was equally bad; or, trade it in on a brand new Stinger.

He did that. But Jerry Seiner allegedly charged him $15K for "the repair". He asked them what they had repaired, and they wouldn't tell him: this he found out, after his new deal was done. He says that his new Stinger, with that cost deducted from the trade in value, plus negative equity means he owed c. $74K for his new car!? I have to wonder why he went through with it; but possibly a combo of bad information resulting in bad decisions.

He still doesn't know what Jerry Seiner ended up fixing after he gave up on his White GT; but they sold it and wouldn't tell him anything. He's still pursuing this legally. I wish him luck!?

Clearly he loves the car. He regaled me with the list of mods he's done, and pointed to the pair of burnout marks down the length of Auto Zone's parking lot, made on Sunday. (which you can see in my pics:D) And this one hasn't had anything go wrong with it since last September except the two dark chrome strips over the front doors going crazed/discolored, as some do; the two rear strips are perfectly fine, heh!? He's already tried rubbing compound to no avail and has about decided to "black them out like yours"; he thought from a distance that mine were blacked out. I took him over and showed him that they are just OE dark chrome still, but perfect. I wish him luck on that too: because his appeal to Kia is taking months for this fubar as well.

He had not heard of KiaStinger.com until I told him. But he's put his story up on one of the Stinger Facebook groups.

Very timely post, Merlin. I was finally starting to kick around the idea of a JB4. It's not worth it on a 5k mile car. If Kia are willing to tell someone to pound sand with their warranty over intakes, I'm not going to push it with a tune. I guess the Stinger will just keep being stock. I need to find something to do to the Vette. Maybe throw an oil cooler on it and take it to the track to scratch the performance itch.

This is off-topic for this thread, but I'm starting to see why people pay a premium for a BMW. My buddy had an E90 335i for years he bought CPO. That car went back to the dealer for warranty work a handful of times with downpipes a JB4 plugged into it and he never got any shit over it. One of those times were due to some code with the AWD system. They just fixed it; no fuss, no muss. He was also given the royal treatment every time he went to the dealer, despite owning a "lowly" 3 Series. Decent loaner cars no questions asked, car came back cleaner every time it went in, etc.

I love my Stinger. It's a fantastic car in every sense of the word, but my God the horror stories with Kia dealerships never end. I get that only pissed off people go online to bitch about dealerships, but the Stinger is a low-production car and I think I've read just as many awful experiences over shitty dealerships with Stingers as I have cars that sell 10x as many.

There's clearly more power left in the 3.3T to be had safely. Kia needs to sell a non-warranty-voiding "Stage 1" tune or something for a few hundred bucks and if it gave me 75% of the performance I got from a JB4, I'd be on board.

I'm just asking a question.......maybe the Stinger drew a different clientele to the Kia dealerships and both parties need to change some things up? Dealers can improve BUT consumers expectations can be tampered just a bit more? Not defending Kia ; this is their first true foray into a German beater in every sense ...... strong engine, great looks and warranty.

I think we're very quick to pass judgment on how poor the experience has been when they're still adjusting to this new found fame that the Telluride and Stinger brings them

Just saw a nice white Stinger cruising through Yorkville! Looking good whoever it was.

Your buddy's BMW story is not uncommon but it's not uncommon to hear other BMW dealerships flag a car for mods. Happens all the time with premium brands. Audi, Porsche, etc. I refrained from doing mods to my Audi S4 as the local dealership is notorious for flagging modded cars. It's also common in the diesel pickup market. Some dealerships don't care if you mod while others will flag your car.

Merlin's story is interesting but I'm guessing there is much more to this story that we don't know.

Just my .02 cents

Ultimately you're not wrong, my story is anecdotal just like everyone else's. I guess I just get frustrated reading so many stories about dickhead dealerships on here. But I'm sure if I spent a while on a BMW forum I'd see the same thing.

A detail about that I left out: Kia told him that if his air intakes had been installed at the Kia dealership that there would not be an issue with voiding the warranty. As long as they do the work they honor the warranty.

Man all this dealer talk is making me glad that I am the warranty. Especially Merlin's post. $15k for some "undisclosed repairs"? I'm at 12k right now and I will disclose everything! Because the only person I can lie to is myself, and oh man am I doing just that. Sigh, I am never going to financially recover from this. Que that tiger King's meme.
On a side note I remember seeing a black stinger on i80. Didn't think there would be so many around Sacramento

Spotted a GG (Ghost Grey) leaving Kennedy Commons today around 4:30ish - exchanged waves

On my bicycle ride this evening, I saw a "Rock and Roll and Car Show" going on in downtown Daybreak. I thought that perhaps a Stinger might be participating. But the closest thing I saw was this.

I decided to take a few more pics.

At c. 2:40 PM, a White 2.0L, waiting to turn left/west at 4000 West, 9000 South. I know it was a 2.0L because it was missing the "teeth" in the lower grille and had the smaller piano black flanking vents.

Wait, camo on Stingers in Aus?! I thought that the facelift camo was only in the "land of origin", S. Korea? Why would development and testing be in Aus. Or is something really obvious not getting through to me? :p
last time I checked the Nurburgring was NOT in S Korea either :laugh::p

But, does camo get applied at the Ring? It's a closed circuit and I would expect entirely off limits while Kia products are doing laps. But I could be wrong about that. :P

Driving up to Whistler yesterday I saw 2 Stingers , one wrapped in flat Black and the other was dark grey ..................first time I've ever seen 2 in a day !
