Hello friends,

I'm looking for a 2019 GT2, and thanks to the tips on this forum I plan to do the lease-then-buyout route. However the dealers that I called are downright incompetent on leasing - many misquote on the incentive for 24 month lease, and some even flatly deny that 24 month lease exist. To save some time I changed my tactic to negotiate a cash deal, and once they give me enough discount on a cash deal, I then attempt for a lease quote.

However this didn't seem to work. I got a dealer to quote me a very attractive price for cash deal (~$6k dealer discount, plus the $4k Kia rebate, and just $400 doc fee, no VIN etching crap). But once I say I want to lease instead, they flatly refuse to give me the same dealer discount and can only give me $3k, saying "there are different rebates involved, you can't mix-and-match like that"

Is that true? Are there secret dealer rebate for cash purchase that give them more leeway to give out bigger discount?

(Another red flag for that dealer is they refused to quote me 24 month lease but only give me 39 month, claiming this gives me the best deal. Oh well. Dealers gotta lie.)

You generally have to be adamant. When I dealt with sales people like that, I quoted my sources (e.g. Edmunds forums for MF/RV and lease cash) or mentioned that I talked to several other Stinger owners about their similar deals. Of course YMMV.

Fine print for finance incentives shows you can't use it on leasing as well as using it for special interest financing, however, I think that's generally up to the discretion of the finance dept.

You could always mention that you talked to other dealers saying they offered a 24 month lease and call them out on it. Then they'll say they'll talk to their manager about it and get back to you.

Why not actually find another dealer?

I bought mine from @KiaofMuncie and drove it home 560 miles or so, to avoid that kind of BS. Everything was negotiated by email and phone in advance, they picked me up at IND. Couldn't be happier.

I'll second what @eflyguy said. Made the 600 mile trip to @KiaofMuncie to pick mine up. The easiest car purchase I have ever done and it took a couple of phone calls and a few texts. Final details were sent to me all written up in an email and my wife and I drove up the next week to pick up the car. They are the most stand up dealership I have ever dealt with and my only regret is I can't give them the service business.

We are planning to drive back to them when the lease is up on my wife's Forte and buy her a Telluride. Could we get it local, sure, but the dealers local to me are a bunch of incompetent jackasses who think 'What do you need your monthly payment to be' is the only way to sell a car.

Hi. Welcome to the forum. Leasing is not something I want hanging over me; limited miles, lease rent, shenanigans going in. I did the buyout as soon as I realized home much in lease rent we would save, and to get out from under the limited miles: I really liked my car and couldn't see myself replacing it any time soon. So, buyout was best. To do it over again, I'd just pay cash and have done with the hassle and uncertainty of negotiating a lease.

There is dealer cash of $3K available on '19 V6 models (at least it's available around Chicago). The $6K they are taking off is effectively $3K, so they must not be that motivated to move the unit.

I can not post links yet but search autobytel and Kia Stinger incentives and you can see yourself exactly what incentives Kia is offering

During my search, one dealer stated there was no such thing as $12,200 lease incentive when I was looking at 2019 GT2 AWD. Replied that another dealer had already offered the full lease incentive (bluff) and the original dealer emailed back within 5 minutes that they can offer same incentives. Dealers like to play games; you just have to better at the game then they are.

Maybe I should travel to Chicago to pick up the car  I am in the NYC metro, and I haven't found any good deal within a 100 mile radius. Dealers don't seem to have a problem offloading their inventory.
On a 24 month lease the best I got so far is ~8.8% off MSRP before incentive (plus ~$500 junk fees), and other dealers aren't even interested in matching that.
I'm still hoping to pick one up for at least 10% off, ideally 12%. If I'm delusional please some one let me know ;)

Yeah, a road trip might be in order .
I have a feeling the dealers with lots of ‘19s in their inventory might get motivated soon. The current incentives expire on 3/2, and I can’t see Kia continue the support much longer.

Sounds like a fun gamble. If I wait till after 3/2, either I get a bigger incentive, or Kia pulls the plug and I get nothing on a 2019. Hmm.

After my buying fiasco, I’ve decided to hold off for a bit. I might ask a friend-dealer to pick me up a used one at Manheim.

Thing is if you're only contacting them via e-mail/phone call, they may not be as motivated to sell you one. YMMV (it worked out ok for me). Also if you bring in competitive lease sheets they may take you a tad bit more seriously.

Also, you may want to wait until last few days of a month and try again.

Last year, the MY18 incentives ended for good in July.

Update: I spent the whole day going to three dealers, thinking the expiring incentive and end-of-month scramble would help. Nope.

The first dealer quoted me at MSRP (!!!). When pressured, they agreed to give a $200 discount (!!!!!) and claim they can't do any better. I told them they must be delusional to think they can move the units at that price, but they said another couple is looking at it right now. Maybe they did find a sucker.

The second dealer gave me a $5k discount. I said if you give me another $400 i will sign right now. No dice. I left.

The third dealer quoted me a $3k discount, and refused to even match the quote from the second dealer.

Eventually, I went home without a car :(

Gah, that blows! When you're finally ready to pull the trigger but no one's willing to play ball.

I'd ask what else they can ADD (rather than subtract) at the $5k off dealer. Free maintenance, addons etc.

If it's any consolation, the hunt is all part of the experience. ;)

What is wrong with a $5K dealer discount? Added to incentives you would be getting a good deal, imho.

I guarantee you that in a weeks time, they'll be calling you and emailing you what they can do to get you in a car (standard subscription email).

Sorry to hear all this. Sounds like your local market is very demanding on the stinger.
