Used Stinger GT Market Info

Here's updated pricing for December 2019.

2019-12-december.webp

October saw more of a drop than expected, but December dropped less than most 2-month periods, so over 4 months, it's evened out.

To revisit my predictions from Feb '19:

Stinger GT at 2 years/end of 2019: $31k average. Cars in certain locations, those with higher mileage, or poorly kept cars may been seen in the high $20k range.

Stinger GT2 at 2 years/end of 2019: $37.5k average. There are already a couple used GT2’s available near this price, but as an average this is where I think we’ll be. Keep in mind some ’18 leftovers will only have been driven 1 year at this point.

Here's the actual:

Stinger GT at 2 years: $30,500 average (predicted $31,000)
Stinger GT2 at 2 years: $37,280 average (predicted $37,500)

Pretty close, with my guesses being a bit on the high side. Once lease incentives started to increase to $8000 and beyond, I actually expected to be further off than I was. If we disregard MSRP and compare the actual new prices available to used list prices, depreciation has been pretty low for the Stinger GT models.

That's good for those who bought out leases with a solid amount of lease cash applied. It's not such good news for those who are looking to buy used.

I understand your financial reasoning for not accepting any situation to buy a Stinger used- but perhaps some, such as myself went into the deal of a used Stinger knowing that regardless of what the market values the car in the future, we love our car enough that it isn’t for sale anyway. Seems pretty moot to me. I plan to drive this car into the ground with me. I adore my Stinger. Regarding a car as an investment item is a failing proposition in any realm.

I hear what you are saying and I am not saying anyone is wrong for buying a used Stinger. Each person’s situation is different. I personally wouldn’t do it but I understand why someone else might do it.

However, a car is ALWAYS an investment. It just happens to almost always be an investment that depreciates. The goal is to reduce that depreciation as much as possible.

The issue seems to be that the depreciation is not consistent. It has sporadically gone down in large increments. That is hard to judge.

My biggest concern with the used car is how was this car treated before I got it. We’re they doing launch control drops at every stop light? Were they braking hard at every stop? Or were they simply driving it around like a normal person?

You don’t have to worry about any of that with the new car. You can treat it how you want to right from the start.

My biggest fear with the Stinger is maintenance costs. This car has to be expensive to repair and I wouldn’t want them to deny a warranty claim because of how someone else had treated the car before I got it.

For me the price of a new car was so close to the prices of the used Stingers they had on the lot that I couldn’t possibly consider the used car.

Someone else may have found a Stinger used for much less and then it may be an option for them.

Here is an example of what is available used in my area.

This 2019 AWD GT2 is listed at $43,258. It only has 800 miles on it but that still is more than what they would ultimately sell a brand new one for.

You have to ask yourself, why would anyone get rid of a car after only 800 miles unless there was something wrong with it.

Used 2019 Kia Stinger For Sale at Hendrick Automotive Group | VIN: KNAE55LC0K6055510

If you click on "CLICK HERE TO SEE PACKAGES...", the resulting page shows that the car has 94 miles. I'm thinking the car has been at the dealership all along.

I am actually debating selling mine and i've only had it for two months at 2k miles. I was recently diagnosed with a spinal cord issue, and bending down into a lower sports car isn't helping it.

In the market for a used GT AWD with advanced driver package in the 24-25k range. When do you guys think that will be possible? I am assuming early 2020 probably. Curious to hear everyones thoughts.
Absolutely!

They might be doing what I'm doing... I bought a brand new 2019 AWD GT2 for roughly $38,750, and I'm going to try and sell it for $42k with only 2k miles on it. Trying to make a little money off it :-)

A business person will go bankrupt if that were the case.

I just found a black '18 Kia Stinger GT1 with 28k miles for sale for ~$29k. Doesn't have the drivewise package that I was hoping for, so I think I'll keep on the lookout for a used Stinger in that price range. From the prices I'm seeing it looks like it will still be awhile for the GT1s to be in the range as this one car.

Sold my 2019 Premium with 2500 miles for $28K. I am good with that.

Since you mention “before the end of the year” I would wait to see what the 2021 refresh has in store.

I just bought a used 2018 Stinger GT for $30,000 out the door. Color is micro blue, RWD, and has driver safety package. It is CPO so I keep the 100,000 mile warrenty. Location is Maryland. I'm happy with the price as it was slightly below edmunds true market value.

Why buy used? I bought a brand new 2019 GT "msrp 41,8xx" for $29,300.

same.

I was hoping to get a GT in the next couple of months for mid/high- 20s. And I've been surprised that there hasn't been much movement since I've been watching closely for 4 months.

I've talked with a couple of dealers about a new GT, and with a couple of rebates I can get to the $34-35k (OTD) mark, but that's still just more than my monthly budget will allow.
Boy, I'd love to talk to those dealers, I can't get anyone down to less than 35k before taxes and dealer fees.

Just bought a 2018 GT (Australian RWD) Stinger Ceramic grey with red leather and 12500km for $38,000 not bad considering these still go new for about $63,000 in Australia. It was a trade in at a BMW dealer and the had it advertised as a base model 330S for $42,000. So when I went to look at it I played dumb and got it for $38k put a deposit right there on the spot.

Smart man. Let someone else take the depreciation hit for you. I also have a grey GT with red leather. Great combo.

Nicely played & you got a great buy there, obviously the BMW Dealer had no idea of what they had...well done Customer 1 - Dealer 0.

I missed updating in February. Here's April's numbers. Doesn't look like listing prices have dropped any more than expected despite everything going on. Although, I expect dealers might be willing to negotiate more at the moment.

Note on the "lowest prices" chart: there are some GT2's available under $32k, but they're all high mileage for their age (45k+). I've excluded them as I always do with extremely high/low mileage or damaged cars.
