JB4 map 3, misfire now CEL

I just played with it today actually. Push the grommet from the top and it is easier than from the side. I pushed the top and lodged a 3/8 rachet in between the hole and grommet (handle of the tea they. There was plenty of room to pass the cable. Again pushing from the top

Without obd, for example, I couldn't get any rpm/boost/etc readings on the app. I think you can still get SOME mapping, but only very basic boost increases and reduced safety.

So you can't just set the map on the JB4 and once saved disconnect the OBDII? im not really interested in looking at the guages, that novelty has worn off. bugga, makes things tricky with the new exhaust I'm about to fit as that uses the OBDII for the varex smartbox exhaust valve control.

No, I believe the JB4 use real-time CAN bus data to optimize tuning.

Update: Drove it 2 more days and it didn't act up so I just re-installed JB4. Glad I did it myself so I can learn my own car. Due to me not being the most skilled it took over an hour (mostly trying to push OBD2 through Grommit and a stubborn nut on the ECU.

I just tested it 20 min and its back to pulling hard and seems normal so far. Obviously I'll keep an eye. Now I'm confident I can put intake+JB4 back to stock in 30 min if codes return and needs to go to dealer. One fuel wires ripped from where you screw it in, but I simply unscrewed it, ran wire through and re-screwed it, so I assume it's contacting what it needs to. Remind me again what the fuel wires do and the importance of them?

Couple observations.... Man these engines have loud lifter tick with the hood open. Why are GDI's sounding like a diesel?? Also even after a month still smell coolant despite no leaks.

Engines tick like crazy. Was a great concern for me early on

Fuel wires report AFR to the jb4 (not sure if they also trick the o2 sensors) so that the fuel ratio gets leaned out a bit at WOT + higher rpm, IIRC. I believe the Kia stock tuning is SUPER rich at high rpm + WOT, and you can gain 20-40 hp (something in that range) just by leaning things out a bit up top. If you never rev past 4000 or never go WOT, you don't need them. Of course, if you don't do that, what are you doing with a jb4 in the first place? :-D

Well I hope I repaired the second one. Wire popped off. But I screwed it back together and I have no way of knowing if it worked. I am getting AFR reading though. Does that mean it's working as intended?

That I don't know - I think the AFR reading in the app is from OBD. May want to ask on n54tech, or contact support via email. Others on here surely know more - I'm just getting started with the jb4 stuff..

I wonder if the issue may be E85. It ran perfect last 24 hours on 91 in map 2. Now I mixed in my 4.5 gallons E85 and already the shifts seem a little rougher. I wonder if maybe my fuel wire is bad or something? Is there a reason E85 would make a car run rougher?

I know Terry you said AFR you wouldn't watch too much but it's more like 15 vs 13 before. Does that mean I'm leaner or more rich currently?

AFR is going to sit around 14.9:1 most of the time unless under heavy boost.

Don't know. You can evaluate it by looking at timing in cyl 1-6 in your log.

OK then there is your answer. :)
