Good afternoon Stinger world!

I am wondering if anyone knows about this product and if it works well.

CARPLAY2air wireless adapter for factory CarPlay + wired Android Auto

It is a usb dongle that plugs in and allows you to use car play wireless. I would love the idea of just tossing my phone on the wireless charger or in the cup holder and being connected to apple car play (like BMW has). It uses a combination of Bluetooth and wifi. He is a video of the initial setup.


I emailed them and they said all functions work for the Kia Stinger as they normally would plugged in with a the lightning cable.

Let me know if anyone has experience with it!
 
Did a little Google search, there is a video that looks identical to this one, by "Carlinkit". I'm going to bet there will be many of these things floating around under different brand names. It might even be a "branded" version of something that already existed on AliExpress. Not saying that's a bad thing, but I'd wait for a good number of reviews before spending 160 bucks on something possibly suspect in quality.

I'd be very interested if this does work well though. I would like to use Android Auto for various reasons, but I can't be bothered to plug my phone in for the shorter (10 minute or less) commutes, so for now I just stream music via Bluetooth.
 
Eventually cars will be mostly wireless CarPlay or Android Auto.

I take back my original statement, looks like they have a lot of reviews on their site. I wish it was on Amazon as I have a bunch of gift card money in my account there.

Interesting...this is another forum post about something similar but it’s only for non OEM Android head units. I am excited about the possibility though for sure! Looks like the company selling them is in the US so that’s a decent start lol
 
I'll see if one of the popular tech guys on YouTube put out a video review...that'll seal the deal for me.

Yeah I just read the reviews on their site and maybe I have to take back my thoughts here...those reviews look fishy at best. Not a single person going into detail just a bunch of "this works, #1 seller, shipment so fast" reviews.

I am going to wait for more real reviews on this.

After attempting to go to this website, my router sent me an alert for blocking a malicious IP address. I think I’m good until something more official proves this works.
 
Here is my 2cent. In theory, this dongle should work once we can access our hidden menu on our OEM units. This dongle actually needs to install a *.apk package onto our OEM units to enable wireless carplay/android. However, although our OEM units are Android base. It is a modified version of android and that I am not sure how would this dongle interact with it. We are all eager for someone to take the plunge and experiment.

seems more complicated that a just PnP with the dongle though... I am awaiting someone else doing it :P

Interesting. They list all Kia models from 2015 to 2020 as compatible. As said though the reviews are super sketchy and no way there is not one 4 star or lower review out of 214 reviews...

Who is going to volunteer to be the guinea pig?

Can you please provide the link? I kinda is thinking about doing this project. I have retro fitted several cars with wireless carplay in my garage already...
 
I've been dying for something like this, so I just volunteered. Order has been placed. Will let everyone know if it's decent or not.

Can always place a chargeback on my card if it doesn't work as expected. :P

Your Da Man...

I'm pretty confident with my theory. Once you received the dongle, you will have to go into the OEM Hidden menu to install the *.apk. Then from there, the wireless features would be released. Please do post the direction if they provide any. Please do keep us all posted.

I have a feeling this just works as a standard Wifi-Direct module. You connect wirelessly and it outputs the information via USB to a "wired" version of CarPlay on the infotainment.

So does that mean the touchscreen will not work?

You are bold. More power to you. Can’t wait to see how it works. If it does work, the big downside is there’s always that chance Apple changes something in an update and renders this unusable. We will hit that road later.

Also, Seems to be the same unit as this with a different logo.
