Just a question : Where do you realistically get to go above 100mph in the US apart from a Drag Strip ?

I've read that "doing the ton" on motorcycles on the road to Brighton was quite the the thing back in the day. Here in California there's a $1,000 fine for driving over 100 so I've never gone much over 130 either. I used to drive a bike which didn't require a long distance to get up to speed so 120 on the local freeways or back roads wasn't uncommon although never sustained. I'm not planning to track the Stinger and the acceleration isn't mind-bending so I really wouldn't mind a 140 mph limiter although I think Kia should be up-front about it.

Yet again we are missing the point we are not talking about speed limits or the law the drivers that have been effected without CHOICE as we were not told or given the chance to decide not sure why we keep getting dragged back to this speed limit b.s. who cares. I care about the fact my right to decide was taken away from me when I was mot informed upfront about this.

English D. I like that idea! How do we set one up on here? Should we just start a new thread with the question?

What exactly would you like me to add to the original post? I've been extremely busy so I'm having trouble concentrating...

a poll? a few of us want to see how many new owners been effected by this mph cap with out knowing or being told about the cap at point of sale

would you sell a car to someone with the ability to go 167mph with tires that are rated for 149mph?

well KIA won't nor would any other manufacturer

all this whining/complaining/threats won't help you. your only hope would be to get KIA or the dealer to take back the car and sell you a stinger that comes with 19's if you really want/need to have the ability to go 167mph.

nobody has duped you. It's printed more than one place that when equipped with the 18 inch all season tires that are rated for 149 mph the top speed would be reduced.

Well they have duped her.. why? well if she decides to put 19's on or faster rated tires her car is limited to 149mph.
BUT , if you ordered it with 19's your car is limited to 167mph.

Therefore they should lift that limit if she gets new tires no questions asked since the swap of tires would meet the requirements.

that's not the way it works. it goes off the tire sticker on the inside of the door jamb

someone with a 18" GT should post theirs. I put up a pic of mine (19" gt)

Sorry for stirring this pot; I read the first page and thought I was at the end of the thread. I wouldn't have posted what I did if I had realized I hadn't read the whole thread. Anyway, a few observations:

1. Staggered wheels not only can't be rotated but also either lose the tread warranty or see it halved (Michelin).

2. I agree with other posters, Kia should have a process for removing the limiter if higher rated tires are installed.

3. This is another example of the botched roll-out. Kia should be very clear about the limiter. Maybe something like having the purchaser sign an acknowledgement that they have been notified that the car is limited to 140 mph. I don't think any of us were aware of this until @Segador's post.

Totally agree thanks for posting something constructive rather than the dribble that has been posted recently

Kia must be hearing the noise about this... I noticed the configurator on their website now has a note on the 18" wheel option:
  • Stinger GTs that are factory-equipped with 18-inch wheels are limited to 130 mph top speed (e.g., installation of 19-inch wheels will not increase the top speed).

If I could take mine back I would, in a minute.
Even the 168mph is electronically limited isn't it? The summer tires on the 19" are only rated for 168, so it seems like a liability issue, and we knew beforehand the 18" set came with slower tires so this isn't surprise. What is surprising (well, not anymore at this point) is how little the dealerships know about this car and the amount of misinformation they distribute to people interested in buying one. You really shouldn't have to go on the internet, find a good website for a specific make and model of a car, and sift through literally hundreds of threads to find out all the information you should know before purchasing a vehicle. That being said I'm glad the option to do just that was available to us all :)

If you want it fixed I'd get a tuner that deletes the limit, but if you're actually going to drive over 140 you better put higher rated tires on first.
Cannot find such tuner, tires are easy thought.

They are absolutely, 100% positively watching this site very closely. I can tell via IP addresses...

As they should, they just sold a lot of stingers that are not as advertised. My stinger has chains on it, that will not allow it to go over 138 mph. That is against the law, the rallying cry should be (LET MY STINGER FREE) They lied and then set their Bullies like Jerry Carrifee out to try to shove it down are throats. It's big talk for him to talk over me and disrespect me over a phone. Wonder how it would go face to face with a angry customer, that Kia cheated out of over 50,000 dollars. I thought I was buying a Grand TOURISMO sports car, not a YUGO with nice leather seats.

Driving a GT car should be relaxing, fast, and eat up the miles in ease.

Doing over 140mph isn’t relaxing and I’ve never been at ease doing it.
In fact over 100mph I tend to hold the steering wheel tighter and stay very focused .... and when I get to my destination I’m defiantly not relaxed! :p

I’m not saying Kia dealers should have been more clued up and informative .... but it being a GT car has nothing to do with it. ;)

In the U.S. people don't buy sports cars to have one just like it speed past it out on the open road. There are so many roads to get up to 167.mph here in the U.S. , and yes if you speed, you will get fined. It's called CHIOCE. KIA took away my choice. What's next??? Gov't goes after are guns, fast cars, extravagant boats, and even are food!! In Vail co. The mc donald will not serve you biscuits and gravy, because they deemed it BAD FOR YOU. it is there number one seller for breakfast in America, but not in VAIL! In America we have FREEDOMS, our brave solders fought and died for us to have them. If i want to drive 167 mph i can, knowing there is a chance that I can be fined. It's a choice, like choosing to ride your bike in the bike lane, or wearing a helmet. When the Kia dealer hangs a banner up in their loby saying ( new stinger goes 167 mph, then the sticker on the car says NOTHING of the reduced speed. Its time for KIA to make this Right! If not soon there will be ice cream venders, with signs in their window saying ice cream for sale, but there will be a astrid next to it in wee writing that says some flavors come with Rat Poisoning. Oh crap!! Now you just bought something you didn't want..
