• PLEASE! It is VERY important that this area is not used for the discussion of technical issues with your Stinger. This section is for posting about regional-specific things like Stinger clubs, events, local vendor or dealer recommendations, KiaStinger.com member sightings, etcetera... In other words, I do NOT want people to need to scour through several different sections to find answers about their heads up display. That's why there's a section dedicated specifically to discussions like that. THANK YOU!

I’ve got one sitting on another thread I’ve periodically checked, sure that the overly pc brigade might remove. Was still there last time I checked. I’m actually surprised. Also that’s not a challenge for some mod to go find it

I told you it wasn’t a challenge :p It was humorous I thought, a bit on the edge for the forum maybe but who knows. Could be nothing, could be someone gets their knickers twisted over it. Weird thing is it was in reply to something else and even that person hasn’t commented and I know they’ve been online since.

Im sure if was that bad one of the other mods would have picked it up. I didnt look for it and won’t either. As you are an upholding citizen and member of the forum like many other Aussies we know your intentions are good and justified. Even my posts get deleted by other mods. That’s one of the challenges of being a mod is that you will always cop some flak whatever we do.

Have you tried changing your cut off voltage to 12.5V to see if that eradicates the warning messages? If 12.3V is needed to start the car you don’t want to be running the battery down below that.
So I disconnected the cameras today prior to service because the dealership has signs up everywhere in the service department saying to turn them off for “security reasons and privacy of staff and customers” seriously an empty car with a working dash camera is a security threat. Anyway once I got it back and connected it up I changed the setting from 12v to 12.5v. Drove home tonight, about 45 minutes at freeway speeds so the battery should be fully charged. Pulled into the garage, turned the engine off and before I’d even opened the drivers door the camera says “powering down” and shuts itself off. I opened the fuse box to make sure I’d actually switched the power magic pro on, and sure enough it’s in the on position with no power light. Looks like my battery is running lower than it should given you run yours at 12.5v with no issues, or maybe my Stinger just doesn’t like it. Odd thing is according to the paperwork I got from the service they checked the battery and “printed results” I didn’t see the results, but they said everything was fine.

Interesting keep us posted with any further developments.

Hmmm. Now that you mention it mine has told me it’s ‘powering down’ on more than a few occasions but I’ve never given it much thought. I don’t think I’ve heard it after driving and while still in the cabin though. I think I’ve heard it most frequently after I’ve been shopping and have opened the hatch to load the groceries in. I won’t swear to that though because I haven’t been giving it sufficient attention. I’ll start taking more notice and report back.

I often hear it say powering down if I open the tailgate or sometimes even just the drivers door. It did it again tonight when I was leaving work but it was parked from 5:40am to about 6:30pm so I got just over the 12hrs but as soon as it used power to open the tailgate it packed it in. That’s with it set to 12v. I should’ve asked the service department about it yesterday, but I doubt they’d help, they insist on turning the camera off while it’s there so makes it hard to test. Oh I also got the starter battery discharge warning when I kicked the engine over.

So I'm happy to be wrong, but the mention of 12.3V/smart alternator isn't that the car needs 12.3V to start, it's that when the battery is healthy and the engine is running the alternator drops its output to 12.3V(its an emission reduction thing, and its why the old voltage sensitive relays for fridges and whatnot don't work so well anymore and everyone has to buy dc/dc converters to compensate for the new smart alternators)
So I would say you if your power pro is shutting down while driving its because the alternator is reducing its output and you need to set it back to 12v instead of 12.5, it won't fix standby problems you're having, but it should stop any bugs while engine is running

Maybe, for both of us, the PMP is close to cutting out anyway and the power required to open the tailgate is enough to tip it over the edge?

I don’t think anyone is reporting any troubles whilst actually driving. It’s more a few quirks while on standby power that we’re trying to get to the bottom of. :)

Interesting what you say about the smart alternator, I didn’t know that. I’m by no means a mechanic or auto electrician, literally what’s under the bonnet runs it and put petrol in the hole in the side to make sure it runs lol

It’s never cut out while driving, issue is random lengths of run time in parking mode, it’s not very consistent, and at 12.5v it cut off as soon as I killed the ignition, but others haven’t had that experience. I run it generally at 12v before it automatically cuts off in parking mode, but then I randomly get a message about the starter battery discharging due to external electronic devices when I start the engine. Doesn’t happen every time either.

Sorry i misread CoastGT's post thinking that it shut down on the highway after 45mins, but it was after stopping, my bad
