My biggest Stinger Problem!

The shift knob is easily bumped from drive to neutral...usually when trying to accelerate.

Guess the joke didn't translate well over the interwebz. But in all seriousness I don't see much difference in MPG between ECO and Sport especially if most of the time is spent shifting yourself. I almost feel like I'm just lugging the car a lot more in Eco whenever I'm trying to get around someone because the revs are so low.
I notice a significant difference. 6 or 8 mpg on average whether I'm letting the auto do all the work or the paddle shifters. For a fun experiment you can do on the freeway, reach a speed, hold it there, and switch between sport and eco modes. Your mpg will probably jump up significantly when you go into eco, at least mine does. I'm sure the less aggressive throttle mapping also helps some drivers be smoother, which is vital to good city mileage.

I've noticed a rattle in the hatch sometimes when going over bumps.

Also it seems to draw the ire of rednecks in pickup trucks for reasons I've yet to grasp. I can't go a week without brodozer driver tailgating me or acting like they're going to ram me or jumping in front of me and immediately trying to brake check me. It's easy to assume it's just Florida Man being Florida Man but I haven't noticed any truck aggro until I got this car.

Other than that, no problems.

HA, that happened when I was out on a test drive of GT1. I had made a right on red (after stop), local yahoo in a jacked up, tires sticking out beyond bodywork pickemup followed from the opposite side of the intersection. He was doing his very best to put his front license plate in the hatchback window when I put the loud pedal to the floor in sport mode. Bye-bye Bubba. Country living smh.

I think it works on the difference in speed of your car and the one in front. If your closing speed is quick then it will alert. I’ve had it happen a couple of times but only every the audible warning and icon on the screen, the brakes have never applied.

nah, I meant the "speedo's first number is a 9" part. :)

If you dont change your driving habits and let the auto do everything I agree. It's easier to get better mpg's in Eco than sport mode. That doesn't mean you can't drive in sport as such that you can't get similar numbers. At any rate I haven't seen that big of an mpg jump in any mode and certainly not enough, for me at least, to justify dealing with the half-dead throttle response with Eco mode.

I've been driving mostly in sport too just because it feels like it's the way the car was designed to feel. But I set my custom mode switch to Eco for engine management and Sport everything else, for when I'm just cruising on the freeway in no hurry.

Just trying to understand here - was he following you closely? You make it sound like he was trying to ram you from behind or something..

Australian Stinger GT has the standard 5 drive modes , SMART , ECO , COMFORT , SPORT and CUSTOM, all selectable via the turn knob in the centre console, why is there no ECO mode in the US spec Stingers ?
Mine has: Smart, Eco, Comfort, Sport, Sport+

Another problem i got with mine is that the 360 camera is too shitty. To a point i scraped the right front wheel against the curb while parking.
The camera seems to come from the 80's "krisp" image.

I am not sure why the difference, but I am aware that in some countries there is no Custom mode, but instead like your Stinger , you have Sport +, which as I understand is Sport mode with traction control off, if I am correct.:)

I believe that stuff is disabled in sports+, but i never go higher than regular sports.. wanna keep the car ON the road and not around a tree :D

That can't be the case. I mentioned ECO mode (which I'd experienced during test drives and in a passenger run) a few weeks ago and was shouted down as not knowing what I was talking about because I didn't own a Stinger at the time.

Next you'll be telling people that the under-trays ARE plastic and not some flimsy material (amazeballs - mine are plastic!).

:p:D:rofl:

We definitely have smart, eco, comfort, sport and custom

What can't be the case ? you mentioned ECO mode in an Aussie Stinger during a test drive, your correct, who shot you down ?
Sorry, but I don't understand why you quoted my post, forum member @Oryan must have been joking about what ECO mode was, even though in the US they have same 5 drive modes, and I didn't get it was a joke.:)

No, it wasn't you doing the shooting down. :P

Has anybody noticed that their Stinger reverts to Comfort mode by default each time the car is started, EXCEPT in Eco mode which is remembered ? Why couldn't Kia make the Stinger remember the last mode used instead (as well as remember the state of the auto Start-Stop mode) ? These are two of my pet peeves in an otherwise fine car. Also the Kia UVO remote starter (here in Canada) that has the hazard lights flashing on the car until you get in it is rather ridiculous.

Minor beefs, to say the least. I think Kia was just being "politically correct", insisting that the preferred "normal" driving style should be fuel efficient. So default is always toward fuel economy.

For me there are quite a few, some that are my own fault:

- The driver's side door has an occasional rattle, and the hatch has a "cracking" sound when it's hot and the plastic is warping a bit from the heat. I can replicate it by simply gently bumping the rear hatch to the left or right of the "Kia" logo. I can also make it "squeak" by pressing on these same areas.
- The brake pad material requires frequent "clean off" to maintain a good biting surface, otherwise I get the dreaded "vibration" when braking from speeds above 45MPH. When slowing from track-level speeds, the brake deposits cause rapid brake fade (due to increased heat build up) and stopping power is reduced.
- It's a "Kia", so about 90% of the time when someone tries to instigate a race with me, they're driving a ricer or some slowass car that has no business picking on a modded Stinger

Well here you go... The Stinger resorts back to COMFORT or ECO mode because if it were allowed to stay in SPORT or CUSTOM or SMART from previous operation to new startup, then it would have to be tested and rated for mpg's in those modes. Now you know the rest of the story. I actually get better mileage in COMFORT, so... Since AUTO-STOP would technically save you gas in city driving, that's why it defaults to enabled.
