Kia undecided on 2nd Generation Stinger

Maybe I am the only one but I would love to see a stinger coupe, maybe not have it be electric but have it be a bit more sporty and have Kia listen to the gripes and suggestions and put that into a 2 door stinger. Just my two cents.

Interesting to hear the entire car is conceptualized, designed and championed in Germany by KIA Germany and Alfred Bierman from BMW.
Just to keep accurate information: his name is Albert, not Alfred. :)

If they make it a little taller and call it an SUV, everyone and their grandmother will buy it.
There goes the original intent/concept, though. What would they call the model, "Stinger Phat"?

I'm fine with Kia not doing a 2gen. My car will never be the "old model."

From the article:

Of course sales are slow. They're not marketing/advertising the Stinger worth a damn, and the pricing strategy is wrong.
the marketing has always been bad for the Stinger. They advertise the heck out of the Telluride and those fly out of the dealerships. Cant remember last time I saw a Stinger commericial and I've only seen one a couple times.

Has Kia ever produced an all-electric car? I would never imagine they'd start with the Stinger model unless it was a performance-based GT model to compete with the Teslas. Then they still have to buy the components from Tesla or Honda.

Good question , Genesis have 3 SUVs in the works , launching over the next year or 2 , thats where all the growth is and where they will likely spend the majority of the AP $$ , Kia has the same dilemma with huge sales and interest in their SUV line up ( note the huge success of the Telluride which staddles the Stinger GT price point ) and they have more larger and smaller SUV/crossovers in the plan . Maybe the Stinger has done its job of creating awareness for the brand and increased the equity a bit , certainly with auto journalists !! I think its a matter of getting their respective portfolios in balance , as an example BMW dove straight into expanding their footprint in the crossover/suv segment having positions from X1- X7 , despite declining sales of their 3,4,5,6 and 7 series I doubt they will discontinue them . They have culled out a few slow sellers like their GTs though ...........If the Stinger doesnt make it to Gen 2 , good for all of us for being early adopters and able to enjoy being part of Kia's transition ! I'm OK with that .................but I'm betting they will continue with it to keep a toe in the segment ( and not to piss off Albert and Peter !! )
I am of the same opinion that they will keep making the Stinger. I cannot for the life of me explain their lack of marketing and advertising for the car though. They got off to a good start then went away.

Kia doesn't do a lot of advertising for any individual model. They start off strong with an advertising campaign that lasts the first 6 months or so, and then they stop...completely.

Most Kia advertising I see are for ALL Kias. Mostly they consist of commercials showing each and every available model together in/in front of dealerships.

Kias best selling cars are the Optima, Sportage, Forte, and Sorento. The last time I saw a commercial for any of those was when the Forte was being released a year ago.

both Kia and Hyundai have debuted new E (concept) cars at recent autoshows and both have declared their portfolios will be brimming with E cars in the near future so I'm sure they are developing infrastructure to support the strategy

I know some of us want to believe the E car "thing" is a phase or fad but the foundations keep expanding
Unfortunately for most of us, the limited range and, mostly, purchase prices put these E vehicles beyond our reach.

If it goes all electric here is the future and it is written. The model will be the V1 named after the infamous flying bomb of WW2 and their advert will look like this-
tesla.webp
I can stop and toast marshmallows as folks already can on Tesla.

I don't know about all electric but thier first attempts at hybrids was terrible. My friend owned one and that car was terrible in only one regard : the powertrain (or lack thereof) it had no power, handled like a wet sock and got worse mpgs than a Civic. Sure left a bad taste.

Let's face it, if I say "commuter car" or "econobox", everyone immediately thinks of KIA.
If I say "premium sports sedan", NOBODY thinks of KIA, it's not even top 10.

I firmly believe the stinger is the best value in sports sedans, but this car is a tough sell in a declining market, and NOBODY EVEN KNOWS IT EXISTS.

KIA has done a piss poor job marketing the stinger. They don't need to market their lower-tier models, everyone already knows they make affordable commuter cars. The stinger is a whole new market and demographic, and they totally dropped the ball on stinger awareness.

At this point, the Telluride is probably a better halo car, at least folks know it exists.

scale , expanded charging infrastructure and govt rebates will fix that issue over time
