Has anyone seen any Stingers in the wild?

Dang, I'm just too old, I guess. My best bud and I cruised the south end of the state in her bug Tillie when we were in college, and never got one greeting! But maybe they weren't rare enough back in that day when hippies still roamed free. (And back then, it would have been a peace sign.;))

You didn't get any love in SoCal, the Mecca for aircooled VW's? I'm shocked, that scene's been vibrant since the early 60's

"Beetle Two" "Beetle Four" was our version. They were so common as kids that we played a road trip points game: 2 points for each Bug and 4 points for each Bus: first one to spot got the points: but you got deducted that many points if you called it wrong. There wasn't any slugging; because that would escalate and Mom and Dad kept such disruptions under control.
Slug Bug here. Same deal.
Over here, the Vdubs are also known as " Punch Buggies " and as kids, if you saw one you had to punch your friend and quickly blurt out " Punch buggy, no returns " ;)

Haha! If you'd seen Tillie, you'd know why, even in the late '60s/early '70s, she got no love at all. Typical cash-strapped-student transport, with greenish-gray paint that had faded to a matte finish and more than her share of dings, dents, and corroded chrome. People who love the breed probably crossed themselves when they saw her coming.

That's actually me on the left. I remember that day and couldn't believe 3 stingers in close proximity of each other.
Awesome! We've met before, but the other person probably isn't on these forums...yet!

1.22pm today Silky Silver on Victoria Rd Rydalmere heading East TWV*** ?

9:00am this morning I spotted a Black one northbound M7 @ Hoxton Park, then 11:45am a Snow White Pearl one southbound M7 @ Eastern Creek.

The last time I saw a Stinger on the road, was last Tuesday, since then I have seen 4 Honda Civic Type Rs , saw two just this morning, previous too that, haven't seen them for like since the start of 2019, guess that might happen with sighting Stingers in the wild, you see none, then you see a whole bunch in a short time.:):rofl:

I know Combi Van owners do and my hubby has a Ducati motorbike, the sports bike guys will acknowledge each other but Harley Riders don't.

Kombi van owners do it as a warning - "Please don't have a head-on collision with me, because we'll both die." Those things collapse like cardboard in frontal accidents :(

True and weren't they notorious for their engines catching on fire ?

Only it not properly cared for. the 2 most common ACVW engine fire causes are (still) plastic fuel filters in the engine bay (drying out/cracking/touching a hot engine component and melting), and improperly secured or old fuel lines coming off/apart and spraying fuel on everything. Both are 100% preventable with regular maintenance, just like on any other car. There are some awesome fire suppression products on the market today as well (like the blazecut) that should be standard issue for anyone rolling a bug, bus, ghia, etc... For a couple of bills it's the cheapest insurance you can buy to avoid a fire. I can also note from personal experience that a fire extinguisher in the car is way more effective than 2 cans of Arizona iced tea at putting out a VW car-b-q (not my car, I had the extinguisher)

I saw a white GT with black rims parked on Red Bird Center Dr in Dallas, TX.

Sorry. Double post, can't figure out how to delete it.

We had "Punch Buggy, no punch-backs" in Canada, IIRC..

Yeah, my wife introduced me to that when I moved to NorCal. I've retitled it "Hug Bug" so that I get a little more, ahem, enjoyable physical contact.. ;)

Depends on what you're in to ;)

I hear ya. That's just for "in the car with the kids.." / in public ;).

I have two girls, and while one of them is tomboyish and would probably love the slugbug thing, she needs a brother to do that to, or me to not be driving - her sister would freak out.
