• PLEASE! It is VERY important that this area is not used for the discussion of technical issues with your Stinger. This section is for posting about regional-specific things like Stinger clubs, events, local vendor or dealer recommendations, KiaStinger.com member sightings, etcetera... In other words, I do NOT want people to need to scour through several different sections to find answers about their heads up display. That's why there's a section dedicated specifically to discussions like that. THANK YOU!

I received a text while in the car today. The brain went into auto pilot mode i.e. thought I was in the VF Calais still - its screen had the ability to not only read text messages but reply with a choice of around 10 standard responses. Can't see anything that points to the Stinger having that ability. TBH I rarely used that feature in the Calais but it was nice to have to reply to a client on the road etc.

Also, the text message I did get only seemed to flash on the screen for a couple of seconds, can this be extended? Couldn't see anything in settings but I did have a "man's look".

If you are only connected via Bluetooth you can click on the message on the screen in the car (not the phone) and hit the read button, it will read the message to you and my experience is that it stays on screen until you choose to change the display. Doesn’t give you an option to text back but if you have an iPhone and have Siri enabled you can simply say “hey Siri” to activate it and then give the command you want like message (insert name here). It will appear on the car screen initially as if it’s making a call to your own number, but then Siri will play over the in car audio. Alternatively you could connect to Apple CarPlay via a usb cable and have the same voice command option using Siri. I’m sure there’s a similar android version but someone else will have to explain how to do that as I don’t have an android phone.

Check what version of the map update you have installed on your Stinger. There is a map update thread on the Down Under section that will give you the current version number and details how to download the map update if you need it. The ability to receive/read text messages via Bluetooth only came about with the last update. Hope that helps

Thanks @Coast GT I've got an Android (and use Next SMS as the standard app to text) so will wait for someone to expand on that. I'll check the version later, it does have the ability to view texts/read texts but would be nice to be able to send a standard preset message like the Calais. Just a very minor gripe, not earth shatteringly important

Are you running Bluetooth or are you usb with android auto?

From interior to exterior to high performance - everything you need for your Stinger awaits you...
Bluetooth mate. Not a fan of Android Auto at all, very clunky I think.
If it’s got the ability to view/read txt messages via Bluetooth then you have the current map update version. Can’t comment on android auto as I’ve never used it. As for sending preset messages I think you’re out of luck, Stinger doesn’t have that ability. You’ll just have to rely on voice commands to your phone to respond.

You can reply to messages via bluetooth connection. There are 5 presets that you can customise to whatever you want. And then when you receive a message, you press reply and it lists the 5 presets... well at least it does that on my Stinger and it is very easy to use!
When I receive a message, it pops up on the screen and I have two options - view or read. If I view the message, the message appears on the screen for me to see/read, if I press read, then the car reads the message out loud. After viewing the message I can reply but only using one of the 5 preset options.

I didn't know this was on the AU version. Just tested it and seems I need to configure phone settings but after a search through various menus I can't find anything to configure.

I'm not certain, but I'm guessing it would be to do with your bluetooth permissions. Maybe unpair your phone and pair it again - see if your phone asks if you want to allow or deny the car access to messages

Thanks for that awesome info & screenshoots @mitchyboy ! I'll try that in the morning and see how I go. I owe you a coffee when I'm in Adelaide in a few weeks time!
*** update *** just checked nope, I have nothing like yours, in Menu it only has:
Message Settings
Bluetooth

If you go into message settings it only has option to tick Message Notification, which is already ticked. I tried Bluetooth settings, nothing out of the ordinary there all ok.

Firmware (hopefully no typos, eyes are rubbish) #
SOFT.CK_19MY.AUS.SOP.0.5.277.180504.MICOM
Map abbreviated is
10.47.48.480.002.2

SO, I worked out it is not the updated MAP, should be 12.47 so I tried to download from the map website and it says "You’ve already latest Map version installed, we’ll inform once update version released."

This is despite me not having this update - it says I have downloaded it on 2/7/19 which I certainly can't recall doing! That was the day I did register on the site though, H E L P ! !

I just emailed support via the update site, got a reply within 10 minutes, need to try via the SUM app apparently. Will try tonight.

That's ok, that just means that your profile/registration has the latest version downloaded, so you should be able to plug in your SD card and update it using the update software. It will get the latest version from your profile and load it to your SD card.
So in other words, your profile has the latest version, but you havent loaded it to your SD card yet, hence your car doesn't have it.

Hi Mitchyboy,
I'd got the latest updates (I think) in July but didn't know how to get the messaging to work until now so thanks for the great information.
As I said I think I've got all the latest updates but I don't seem to have the pre-set reply messages that you have on your screen shots.
Did you have to do anything else to get that option or am I missing something? Any suggestions gratefully accepted.

@smillie
You have the latest update as do I and mitchyboy but you don't have the presets. I have no idea why, but here is what mine looks like.

No idea why you don't have the "predefined messages" option. That is strange. Maybe try reinstalling the update?
Also, the predefined messages can be changed to whatever you want, you just click on them and type in the new message you want to save.
