I would not think this has been fixed though until it stops happening and people stop reporting it and I see new posts with this issue on other forums so not sure if it is an isolated problem or just a horrible paint process.

One year after my repaint, the bonnet has started chipping. I am taking the car in this week for them to look at it.

I have to say that my silky silver premium seems to have a lot softer bumper paint than my original base silver. I’ve added some PPF but it has numerous dings and missing chips after only 5400 miles. The base had maybe one. The metallic areas are fine.

What is a "metallic area"? The "chrome" pieces around the grills are just plastic. I have a couple of small but acute nicks in my lower/left dark chrome trim. So far, nothing through the PPF. I haven't noticed anything on my Stinger to suggest that different panels/areas are softer than the rest.

Metallic as in the hood, fenders, doors, etc.

Oh, yeah. Duh. I thought you were just talking about the front/bumper cover. :P

How extensive is your PPF coverage? If you covered your "softer" bumper, how is it still getting dinged and nicked?

My service advisor at the local Kia dealer said that I might have to go back to the dealer that screwed up the paint the first time to have the warranty work done. Trouble is, she's not all that hopeful since Kia does that sort of thing at a loss.

The interesting part is that when she was looking at the car, she noticed bubbles under the paint on the rear hatch, which was not repainted by Kia the two times I had my car done.

They don't photograph well since the lighting where the car is kinda sucks a little. Here is one of at least 6. This one is on the left hand side of the top part of the rear hatch.

bubbles under paint - rear hatch.webp

A bubble? That could be clear coat. But, as you say, it should have been repainted before. :(

I purchased a sunset yellow 2018 Stinger GT and am wondering if the paint recall last year is still effective now. Any help on this is greatly appreciated!

Hi there and welcome.

Why, do you have failing paint? Because any MY18 Yellows are supposed to have been resprayed before resale. Did you buy from a previous owner? Not all Yellows were taken back in and resprayed, I'm thinking.

But to answer your question: the recall for respray, trade on a different color, or buyback ended last December.

If you bought it after they issued the recall, then it was already repainted

Well folks, Kia North America strikes again.

I think this time I am done with the whole brand. They want me to take the car back to the dealer that did the paint the first time because it is a "workmanship" issue.

This is despite the fact that Kia did not paint the affected parts in the first place! How can bad workmanship at that dealer result in paint bubbles occurring on parts that were not painted?

The second part of this silly debacle is, if the dealer painted the car improperly TWICE, why on the face of everything that is sane would I even think of going back to them again so they can screw up a new set of panels? These guys even broke the passenger side rocker panels when they were putting the car back together and gave absolutely no shits about it.

In any event, I like the car as it was a gift from my wife for my birthday, but at the end of the day, it is a car and Kia NA is killing me. Even the wife is starting to say "screw Kia", lol. And she's the PC one.

Remind me to tell you one day about how they screwed up my order for a Telluride and how I ended up with a Palisade instead (after I put down a deposit in March and was told that maybe I would get the truck in October, if I am lucky).

So if any of you are in the market for an un-modded yellow Stinger, DM me.

HI All - can you all check your hood vents and let me know if anyone is seeing slight rubbing of paint off around in the crevices of the fake hood vents? You may need to flash a light there, this is now after almost a year of ownership. Thank you.
P.S. I know this has been discussed before but I am not sure to what extent, I could only find yellow stinger affected. Mine is Thunder Grey.

Are you referring to specks of white plastic starting to show through the gloss black? I have a few of those and just touched black paint pen to them. Beside the car you can't see them. I know they're there, but nothing is going to attract anyone else's attention.
