3.3TT Kia Stinger Aftermarket Exhaust Information and Discussion

For me drone is something that continues (or "drones on") while the car is at cruising RPMs. I don't think of any noises made by the exhaust while the RPMs are climbing as drone.

If I'm on level terrain with the cruise control activated and get a steady hum/vibration I have drone.

If I'm accelerating through the gears/up an incline on the highway and get some throaty feedback from the exhaust I just consider it a part of the exhaust's note.

When I reach cruising RPMs the only noises I hear are from wind, tires, and the radio. In my GTO and Camaros with dumped bullet "mufflers" I had a constant hum at any cruising RPM that made it impossible to have a normal volume conversation or listen to the radio at a civilized level.

I think this is why so many people and companies make varying claims about exhaust drone--there is no standard definition for exactly what it is.
Now it makes sense why you say you have “no drone”. Seems like you are simply mistaking increased volume of exhaust notes, with actual drone.

Drone typically doesn’t happen while cruising on level terrain, and only is created while the engine is under increasing load. This is why people complain about drone while accelerating slowly through the gears between 1500-2500rpm, or while going up an incline where the engine is under load and slowly going through that specific RPM range.

You are describing drone when talking about “dumped bullet mufflers” on big V8s, and having a hum that made it difficult to have a conversation. But that RPM range would be much larger so you would have it almost all the time, and the amount & volume would be drastically more than from our smaller V6s.

Your defining factors of what drone is & comes from is not really accurate, and your degree of what qualifies as drone is simply your interpretation from an Apple’s to Oranges comparison.

I know what qualifies as annoying sounds differs for everyone, but your explanation clarifys why you don’t think you have any drone, and isn’t similar to what most people reference as drone.

Is there a list of whom all makes the bi-modal catback systems that are adjustable based on a stock sound to more aggressive?

I would suggest reading all the exhaust threads, very good info. I wrote a review of the Kunstwerk racing evc with and without downpipes.

A week or two ago someone asked the same question and there was a list of 5 or 6. Not exactly sure which thread. It might be a page or two back in this thread for all I know.

Hi, I'm new to modding cars in general, and I've just bought a GT1. I was wondering if I could do only Jun Bl downpipes without any other exhaust mod done to it? Thanks!

Yes any secondary cat delete. Jun bl, kustwerk, ssr, ect

Omg this drone fix is amazing!!!

I had trouble installing it since I didn’t pull the resonators or piping off and just did my best to wrap it while it was on the car. However it was more of a test just to see if it worked well enough to remove my resonators again.

I have to say even with the amateur job it still eliminated almost all the drone from my muffler deletes!:D

You definitely don’t need to line your hatch area with sound deadening materials with this fix, and was worth every penny. $11.99 to be exact.;)HM&FC Black Fiberglass Exhaust Header Pipe Wrap 50 Ft (L) * 2 In (W)*0.06 In (T) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B015OVU9BE/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_P2VdDbTBRJ2VS).

I wish I knew about this before I added my resonators but think I’m going to remove them to go back to just a muffler delete, and then reinstall this drone fix the right way the second time around.

Thanks again for sharing and have to say it’s one of the best upgrades I’ve made, which is saying a lot.
I plan to give this a try sometime soon if I have time. My only unfortunate problem is that my deletes are a bit off centered from the hole. One on the left side is good. But the one next to it is a bit higher from the hole. Is there anyway I can use the heat wrap and cover the wider gap? Or is there something else I can try and use to fill the void. There's a picture for reference. Thank you

Hmmm. Yeah that may make it difficult because you need to completely seal off the area between the tips and the mufflers or it won’t work well. The wrap is like fabric and is malleable so you can squeeze it on one side and have it thicker on the other. But it looks like a significant difference and may not be wide enough on the bottom left side.

Anyway you can adjust the hangers so it is more centered?

I didn't want to do a double post, you can find my MBRP experience HERE - LOVING IT !!!

Most definitely recommend this exhaust !

Some more recent videos of Ark, MBRP and QuickSilver:

Thanks for sharing and the MBRP still sounds the best. The junfitted or Hanslab is a close second though.

Which exhaust(s) offers the pops and crackles? Love that sound

My muffler deletes do and it’s sounds amazing.:D Also most catbacks will give you mild pops and crackles while slowing down too.

Edit: Just to clarify. I’m describing mild pops & crackles or gurgles opposed to the ECU added pops & bangs people do on purpose to sound like gunshots.

And here’s a short video of the deep rumble and Maserati’ish type roar under throttle from my muffler deletes.

Its done by the ECU
Ur best bet is the borla, little to no dampening in the borla muffler. And going catless will help too. Mine gurgles for about 1/4 mile slowing down from 40 locking in 3rd gear then downshifting to 2nd gear when it drops below 1500 rpm just with borla catback.

It will not crackle pop like an M car with M performance exhaust though, that's purely ECU tuning, lap3 has a crackle pop tune for the car already, video up on youtube.

Found this for all you Stinger owners in and around Poland. I contacted them and unfortunately they only build to order on the specific car and therefore don't have any "in stock" which means despite how badly I want it it's just a bit too expensive to ship the car to Poland, have them build the exhaust, then ship it back to California.
