Cell phone holder placement

What magnet if I can ask I am very curious about this.

Probably a magnetic phone mount - they are pretty common, and better than the old edge clamp type, but require a specific case for the magnet to attract, I think.

The majority of the ones I've seen recently come with a thin metal 'plate' that is either adhered to the back of the phone or the inside of your existing case.

I think you are right that it's more common to just have a generic plate than the whole case - makes sense because then it's a universal fit...

Well, I unpacked the mount again (I had packed it back up to prepare for returning it) and figured I'd give it another shot. I ended up finding a much better spot, I'm not a big fan of items on my dashboard and I hate clutter, so this position for me works perfect. rear side panel of the center console which is plastic so the suction/mount adheres to it perfectly. check the photos out.

I have the exact same unit, but I found it a little more accessible and attractive set up in the same way on the opposite side of the console. Just a matter of taste. I posted my photos of it previously in this thread.

Edit: Well, can't find my post so it must have been in a different thread.

I know this isnt a cell phone question but I carry a pistol with me and looking for the best place to put it for easy access. I had a ford f150 and would put it between the seat. Not able to now. Was wondering if anyone carries and found a good place.

People may flame me to death on this, but the ONLY place it should be is on your person in a hard sided(kydex) holster that maintains retention on the firearm and completely covers the trigger guard. When you are going to enter a non-permissive environment, it should be stored in a locked hard sided case cabled to your vehicle(preferably still in said holster). Personally I carry appendix and that is where it stays regardless of where I am or what I am doing. If I want to wear sweatpants or shorts without a belt, then the belly band comes out.

I made several different attempts at finding a device that was reachable, easy to view, unobtrusive and wouldn't have to be glued or stuck somewhere that would leave a noticeable ghost behind after removal. I also didn't want anything hanging from the windshield. 3 different people received 'gifts' which were my failures at satisfying the above criteria. This is what I settled on:

It sits in the perfect height and position in my opinion. And since I'm alone in the car 99% of the time, the loss of one cup holder spot isn't an issue.

Really love this location too. My phone can scan my face and unlock from that distance. And using the phone when parked or whatever is really ideal. Reminds me of the tablets on that ship in the Matrix. Hoping the Loctite glue holds up that I used to attach the Pro Clip.

Wow finally. Only took them 2 years. Wonder why it claims to be only compatible with the 2019s though...

Also, it looks like it *might* be a little too high for my liking. Would be fantastic if it came down over the empty dash space there instead of potentially blocking a view outside the windshield.

Edit: just chatted with proclip support, available hopeful within the next 4-8 weeks and confirmed 2018 compatibility as well.

So $30 for just the mount and it doesn't include a holder? Take a look at the install procedures to see what you are paying for.

Pass.
Yup. $30 for the mount for the car, then $20-30 for the phone holder. It's supposed to be a two part solution since you can swap phone mounts that specifically fit your phone without having to get a mount that specifically fits your dash/car. $30 one-time and $20 or so for a phone-specific holder when you get a new phone.

They're also much better quality than most of the ones you find on Amazon. I think they're worth it.

Agreed re quality and stability. I already have the holder anyways from my prior solution, so this will be a no brainer for me.

Yeah and still no. If you think $60 is a good price for a single phone mount that's up to you. It is an option.

It's not really $60 for a single phone mount though. It's $30 for the car piece, then $20-30 per phone you get. Most people get new phones before new cars. You don't have to replace the phone holder part when you change your phone.
