Has anyone lit up the red strip between the rear tail lights? (quick photoshop)

I've heard multiple reviewers lament the fact that the rear brake lights do not light up full width, despite the clear red strip running across the back.

I've been scouring the net looking for a mod kit (no stinger yet, but fingers crossed, planning ahead :D) and can't find anything, my google-fu is failing me.

It seems like a trivial DIY job, the wiring is already in the rear hatch for the stock lights, and the clear red strip is already there, you just have to remove it, add a light strip, and splice the power from the existing wiring.

I did a quick shop job, looks killer, especially at night:

I know SOMEONE must have done it by now, just looking for the link/kit.

Just buy a Dodge :-)

no offence... That was the first car that came to mind...

First time I saw the rear end on a Stinger I thought it was awful that it looked like a Dodge. I'd hate to light that center section up and make it seem certain. But, to each their own!

No such Dodges here in Australia for people to compare it with (we have Jeep/Chrysler/Dodge dealerships, but I think the only Dodge product they're selling is the Ram).

I think it looks OK!

@Joseph Spiegel put a row of four to half dozen LEDs behind his connecting strip, which looks pretty cool and unique. Maybe he'll come along and share.

Not the same. He is talking about replicating the OEM look on that center part of the tail light.

I've been wanting to do the same and I think it looks ok. However I've not found anyone able to do it.

The most challenging part is fitting the LEDs and the light reflector in the OEM housing. There is enough space behind the light to fit the wiring, however there is not enough space on the light it selft to fit those components, it definitely a tricky mod.

Yeah I think you would have to take a dremel to it and carve out a channel for a LED strip to go. Shouldn't be too hard but definitely will take patience.

You'll also need to find the correct light strip that would match the existing lights so they look evenly lit.

Is there a guide or a manual anywhere on disassembling the hatch light assembly?

New Guy here and don't have a Stinger yet, but I'm going to take your idea one step further and make it more functional. It would be pretty cool to have that middle strip as a third brake light. It would be unlit while driving and then when you hit the brakes, it would light up to let the people behind you that might be texting to wake up!

You'd get the best of both worlds then, a lit up section that adds safety and the look for those that don't like the lit strip.

Just a thought.

And have it flash at random intervals for maximum annoyance :-)

I do get the desire to "fancy up" the car, but lately, I am seeing more and more "light pollution". If you're going to blind people from behind (for example, by driving with high beams on) or mess with their night vision by blinding them with 5000 lumens brake lights / rear marker lights, don't be surprised if people suddenly slow down when you're behind them, or if they hit you from behind because you totally messed with their vision. Pretty sure there are maximum light levels for day/night front/rear of the car - be careful you don't exceed them, because then it's your fault..

Not saying you shouldn't "have fun", but light is a tricky thing - too much at night, especially when unexpected, can be very tricky. You wouldn't want to cause any accidents due to blinding people with super bright light at night, such as a 3rd brake light that is way brighter than your regular lights.

is way brighter than your regular lights.

Not to worry: the European Stingers have a super bright "Fog Taillight" in that strip, and if you look closely when you disassemble the NA taillight you notice a provision for one bulb has been made....

I'm not talking about a fog light, properly used. I'm talking about adding 20 super-bright LEDs as "3rd brake lights" that totally light up the whole back of the car and make it hard for the person behind you to see anything for several seconds afterwards. Not saying that was the intent here, just throwing out a small caution.

I certainly think the design of it begs to be "lit". I'd be keen to see it. Same with the rear side reflectors, but maybe they already do in other countries>?

That's a pretty good inbetween. Just splicing into a different wire.

Red don't mess with your night vision, and you'd match the brightness of the stock light section. Don't be a dick folks!
