ECU Speed Limiter

keep in mind this is on a dyno and not on the road. I'm fairly certain a bolt on/tuned Stinger can not reach that speed on the road. The fastest tuned car I've seen with video evidence is 300 kph, which is just under 190, but that was also a G70 which is a little lighter and has a slightly lower drag coefficient.

Have seen a Stinger in Germany that reached 301 kmph on the road.

You can't help us with the Stinger Forum thread that has the posted pic of well above 300 KPH? A stinger doing over 190 MPH. This was c. three months ago, iirc. I have no first idea how to find it now.

I don't remember seeing a picture, but unless the road was clearly visible in the picture I would take it with a grain of salt. Car could have been on a dyno. The new M5s can't even hit 200 mph and they have 600 hp.

That's a good point. I do recall the poster asserting that this was on a track. And as I said, I think it was in Korea.

I thought I'd bring this thread back from the dead...

@Sales@Tork - is the bench flash tune that you're offering the solution for getting around the speed limiter?

To my understanding an ecu tune can remove/raise the speed limiter. Tork and Presertech can both do this.

^^^Looks like Lap3 (Pro-Tuner) offers that functionality as well. The issue though if you go with these options is the warranty.

Lap 3 pro offers it but you have to tap into a wire for it.

Piggyback is more warranty friendly since you can take off the car and put back on. The lap 3 has a cam sensor that can be a pain to install, you will have the remove the driver side downpipe to get to it. The JB4 on the other hand is very easy to install and has no
cam sensor.

The ecu tune you run the risk that can be overwrite if the dealer loads some software on it. Then you will have to resend back the tuning shop to load the tune. I know Presertech gives unlimited reflahses no questions asked and Tork is a case by case basis.

I thought about the JB4, but it doesn't get around the limiter issue though, right? At least I don't recall seeing it in the description. Since you have it on yours, what's your thoughts about it?

You are correct the JB4 does not raise the speed limiter or remove it.

I personally love the JB4, I had it for about 8k miles now and it has been great. You have the option to switch maps on the fly and run WMI as well if you decide. You can also data log the car's information.

I ran an 11.9 with the JB4 at a fraction of the price of the Lap 3 and ecu tunes. When I go to dealers visits I just remove it.

My personal opinion is get a JB4. In the future when more ecu tunes come out you can get an ecu tune and keep the JB4 and stack it with your ecu tune or sell it.

It's been on my want list, your opinions on it stokes the fire even more. :D Now, what to do about that damn limiter...

Limiter is not that big of a deal. I only hit the limiter once in a roll race. On quarter mile or track course you will not hit the limiter.

What the hell are you planning to do that your concerned about the limiter? Is 155 mph not enough lol.

^this

Even roll racing, anything over 135+ is pointless imo. We have 4XXhp cars, not 1k.

Most road courses I don't think of the limiter. However, there's those that incorporate an oval with a roadcourse portion, where you could very well hit the limiter. I just started realizing about this in the past day or so when I realized mine is one that has the 18" wheels and all-seasons, putting my limiter at 130mph. In the Prelude, which has no limiter out-of-the-box (drag limited), I've hit over 125mph on World Wide Technology Raceway on the oval portion, and that's a car that has only 200hp, 230hp or so after mods. Mind you, that car is around 1200lbs lighter, but you get the idea. I could see myself going around that same course in the Stinger and peg the limiter partway around.

Yeah, if mine were 155mph limited, no problem, but them's the breaks. :(

Well i definitely hit that limiter on a daily especially when roll racing it would be nice to be able to do 160 ⬆️ shit i hit the limiter on my commute home from work lol not that hard when you drive 95% highway everyday and the slow traffic on my commute is driving 75+

I "plan" on behaving myself "next time". :D
But then next time rolls around and I am well over a hundred miles per hour.
I want to go 155 again. And if the venue allowed for it, I'd push to see how much above the 167 limiter my car will actually go.

Lap 3 is the way I chose to go after speaking with the dealers service manager that I have known for 20 years he said go with the lap 3 I can hide it better the tork Ecu is not vin matched and the Kia rep that comes for major warranty work will detect that the ecu had a miss matched vin to it so in my opinion lap3 was and is the way to go.

I went with the JB4 for half the price of the lap 3.

Agree piggyback can be the way to go in this case.

Yes we have gotten around the speed limiter and can raise it

What do you think the theoretical top speed of a stock Stinger is? Assuming the road is straight, endless and no traffic...

I'm betting somewhere in the 170-180 range
