I have a swp Stinger and very time I go out I get road dust accumulating on the rear bumper and back panel which is a pain. I have spoken to some members in Oz that say if I fitted a spoiler on the back it could fix or reduce the issue. Is there anyone who has made this observation after fitting the spoiler or is any other solution to the problem. Your feedback would be appreciated.

Welcome to the club...the same issue continues to piss me off. I would love to learn of a solution.

I experienced excessive road grime/dust on the rear, but once I fitted the rear deck spoiler I have noticed this issue is greatly reduced to almost eliminated, must have something to do with the change of airflow at the rear of the car.
They had a similar problem here years ago on old station wagons if you fitted an airfoil type wing on the roof at the rear it eliminated the adhesion of dust & road grime.

This... Any spoiler which slopes up and gives more downforce is going to create negative pressure underneath it and therefore pull dust and dirt into the area.
What your asking for is a wing that slopes down which would create positive pressure under it pushing the dirt away but in turn it will lighten the rear end at speed.

A dirty bumper is the price we pay for performance, stability, and handling.

Is what it is.
Hit it with the hose man.

A regular application of hot, soft water with a terry cloth towel, followed up with microfiber drying towel, will make it beautiful again. I, too, have noticed that just one drive after a car wash, the area around the tail pipes and the ledge between them collects dust like mad. And I have accepted this (as @WildBill put it so well) "as the price we pay for performance, stability and handling."

I just use a leaf blower and California duster....

I appreciate the suggestions of how to clean but im more interested in how to stop it from happening.

Avoid dusty roads?

I have a short gravel road commute so I get it.

I blow the dust off daily and quick once over with the duster. It only takes a couple minutes to do the rear.

Cant say I’ve noticed the Stinger being any worse than my previous cars.

As noted before, the only way to stop it is to keep airflow on the car. Once the airflow detached from the car, it will start to swirl and eddy, and it will start to deposit dirt.

air flow over car - Google Search has some good pictures.

How do you stop it? By preventing the airflow from falling off the body. If you've ever seen a "spoiler" on a hatch or wagon that looks like it tries to direct air from on top of the car down onto the rear window, this is exactly why.

Vortex generators (like you see above the rear window on a Mitsubishi Lancer Evo) can help too - they help pull the airflow down along the bodywork and reduce lift (and help with the dirt as an aside).

Now why didn't somebody before this say anything about that Cali Duster? What a great idea! I'm getting one tomorrow; that will reduce the number of times I get out the buckets of water and terry cloths.

Why do you need a noisy, obnoxious leaf blower? It looks like the duster does the job. Is it to spare the duster? Reduce duster time?
