G70 to be lighter and Quicker than Stinger

So based on these articles it would appear that the G70 will start under "$55,000" to undercut it's German rivals. But top out at $10-$15 grand more than the "loaded" Kia Stinger GT. That nets me less interior room and truck space. But it gets me two tenths faster to 100km/h.

Once you are in the 60's for price and slower than the 340's, S4's, etc. I am out.

I am with you there. What sells me on the Stinger is the sportback trunk and priced (compared to the A5/S5 Sportback). I remember hearing about the Genesis but the smaller wheelbase, smaller back seat wheelbase, and lack of cargo room is not what I am looking for.

I know that common sense says the G70 will cost more than the Stinger. But consider that the G80 currently tops out around $55k, and it's also common sense that the G70 won't be more expensive than than the G80. I suspect a loaded G70 will be only slightly more than the Stinger, probably by $2~3k

I agree with hej that the G70 is not likely to be much more expensive than the Stinger. A few thousand - that's all. However, let's not automatically assume that Genesis doesn't want to align itself more closely with the premium brands and shed that "discount luxury" image. If it's not happening now, it's happening later. It's definitely in the books and in the cards...

Also, I said it before and I'll say it again because I think it's the sort of thing that's easy for people to overlook; you're getting less trunk space with the Stinger because you have an actual spare tire. Run flats are nice in theory, but they are expensive as hell, compromise the ride quality, and at the end of the day they offer less protection than non run flats paired with some fix-a-flat and a tire inflator kept in the trunk. The limiting factor for what I've been able to haul for me has always been the aperture into the trunk space, and with a hatch back that is considerably better. With that in mind, I'm happy to give up some space for a proper spare and the peace of mind that comes with it on long distance driving.

I suspect we will see some price increases for the G80 in the 2018 model year. The G90 starts at $68,100, so there is a lot of breathing room between the G80 and G90. We don't yet know pricing for the 2018 G80 Sport. The G80 will also now offer AWD on the V8 model for 2018, so we can tack on another $2500 to the top trim model. If Genesis (Hyundai) pushes the G80 into the 60's I can see the G70 ending up in the mid-50's for a loaded model.

I believe the current consensus is the G70 will have less trunk space than the Stinger. The G80 and G90 both have space saver space tires. It is currently unknown if Genesis will take a different path and go "inflator kit" or "run flats" with the G70 to bump up the cargo capacity, save weight, etc.

I'm not crazy about run-flats so I'm glad the Stinger is using a real spare tire. I've "heard" run-flats are better these days - but haven't experienced it for myself. They do work very nicely but how often are you going to enjoy that over the compromised ride quality every day?

The current Gen Infiniti Q50 owners have been having a heck of a time with the stock Dunlop SP Sport Maxx 050 DSST CTT tires. Numerous incidences of bubbling on the sidewall. Some owners have had 4-5 tires replaced over the first year or two of ownership. Some were pothole induced, others seemingly came out of no where. The car was considered unsafe to drive when each incident occurred, so they had to be replaced immediately. That is an extreme case but not all damage can be overcome by using a RFT. I agree with Hej and think the peace of mind knowing I have a replacement for almost every type of tire damage (as well as wheel damage) is worth giving up a few cubic feet of space for my grocery bags.

I DETEST run flats. On my 2015 m235i I went through 3 tires (Pirelli P Zero Run Flat Tire ) in one year at $368.00 per tire installed at the dealer. I was not a happy camper at all. I drive my car with car except those occasional red light races, I can't resist lol. Two of my flats were from potholes, not deep ones either. The third was just the tire deciding it didn't want to live anymore lol. The ride quality is definitely compromised with run flats. My 2012 Audi A6 was smooth as butter. This ride on the bimmer can be a bit harsh, but I also don't expect a lot of comfort when I first through about leasing. I am in the crowd of "give me spare" all day, any day. I will never have a car with run flats ever again.

Three sets, or three individual tires? If we're talking individual tires, you got off easy.

smaller car? no thanks. i currently drive a neon. i want something bigger in the future lol
neon?! you mean srt-4?

i knew the g70 would be faster then the stinger. i'm not disappointed. that's just how it is. i don't need the fastest car on the road. i just want capable performance and something that's fun to drive.

The G70 should still be substantially larger than your Neon. I think the leap to either the G70 or the Stinger will be night and day different.

The G70 should best the stinger by a few tenths in each standard magazine performance measure (0-60, 1/4 mile, etc.). It will likely handle better at the limit and be more "toss-able" for back road driving, etc. The weight savings may or may not impact fuel economy as well.

But Genesis as a brand as some quarks that I think would bother me during daily usage if they are carried over to the G70 (and I have no evidence to think they would not). For example, the rear seats do not fold down in the G80 or G90 (there is a pass through). So if I want to be able to carry anything larger than some ski poles I am out of luck. Also, the infotainment systems on the upper trim levels (the 9.2 for the G80 and the 12.3 for the G90) do not have android auto or apple carplay. But the base system (8 inch; the one we will likely see on the Stinger) is compatible. For most car companies the opposite is true, go figure.....

I am not sure what the release timing for the G70 is going to be. I would think they would not have them overlap. But they claim Hyundai and Kia operate as separate entities who actually compete with one another (as evidenced by Hyundai/Genesis of Aus calling out the Stinger on the performance front).

I do think the G70 is more likely to snag the "badge averse crowd" as they will likely be much more comfortable with some wings on their car.

i have been very interested in the genesis sedan/g80 for over a year now so im really wanting a car around that size. i understand the stinger will be slightly smaller but the mentioned fully folding rear seats and the hatch is a huge plus. ive heard android auto and apple carplay will be coming to the newer loaded g80 being released later this year. it does seem like a nice feature but not a make or break situation for myself. while it would be cool to have a better performing car, i think the stinger gt will fit the bill just fine, and be more within my budget by comparison. if i want a fast car, i already have it with my lil neon. coming from a 12 year old neon, the stinger will be lux enough for me

I spoke to the Genesis reps at an auto show earlier this year. They said the 9.2 inch infotainment system (G80) and the 12.3 inch infotainment system (G90) would not be getting AA/AC anytime soon. Maybe the plans have changed.

I am not sure if you intend to buy the non-GT stinger. But if you purchase plans include the Stinger GT 3.3T then I am guessing your SRT-4 is highly modified as the stock Stinger GT should be a good bit faster than a stock 2005 Neon SRT-4.

oh okay. thats fine by me. like i said before, not a deal breaker. although it is odd to may more and not get something that you would get if you paid less.

not highly modified but just enough to net a 12.9-13.1 on drag radials. with 20whp less than now i ran a 13.4 at 103 on street tires. but i have big plans for it sometime in the future. the stinger gt will make a fun daily driver

It's on my "nice to have" list. I agree. Lets pay more money and loose some features. o_O

Not bad at all for FWD. I am hoping to see the stock GT get close to your "old" street tire time with a higher trap speed. Fingers crossed.
