3.3TT Regretting a mod

So I didn’t know where to post this, so if it’s the wrong place let me know.

I have SSR downpipes and have had no issues, but I also have AP intakes and hate them.

No matter what I do the fitment just seems “off”. I hear what appears to be a rattle or rub or vibration or something on cold start, the hood doesn’t sit flush still, and I just... don’t know.

I love the sounds and love the look but the fitment and vibrations just ruin it for me and I am constantly opening the hood to recheck hose clamps, tubes, etc.

I cut the recirculation hose to make it fit and I’m worried the stock ones won’t go back.

I may sound stupid, but I just needed a place to vent.

I don’t think you’re the first to complain about that issue with the AP intakes. Sorry to hear buddy.

You can pick up the OEM recirc hose if you want to go back to stock for like 12 bucks.

I had fitment and a few other concerns. Still have them, but not 100% happy.

May eventually get a JT intake. But the wait is brutal and they aren’t cheap.

I’ve tried to “get past” the issues but I can’t. It’s a 52k car and a 450 mod is causing me problems. As much as I want a fast and loud car, the car is plenty fast for what I need it for. The SSR provide plenty for me.

I wonder if the cut hose will fit back or if I need to get a new one first.

My AP is a good fit. It is a bit tricky though. Just don't use the rubber/metal inserts

I feel your pain OP. i could have written this same post, if you switch AP intake with SSR pipes. I absolutely HATE the way they make my car sound and can't WAIT to get them off next month (too pressed for time these days to take it in).

Sorry to hear about your issues with the AP product.

Installation of the Injen air intakes I purchased was quite straightforward and secure, though it did take some enthusiastic wriggling to remove existing hoses. No hose cuts involved so it's fully reversible, as they come with two short lengths of rubber hose to tie the driver side pipe to the OEM fittings (you do reuse some of the small OEM hose clamps for these).

They fit well and have a professional high performance appearance to them - I like the looks of the big open filters. An alternative to consider if you are in the market for an alternative.

Falanger Dadgum hate to hear that bout the SSR's...I was about to order and I don't want loud or drone...most here say the down pipes arnt much louder than stock. So do you have just the down pipes or the mid pipes too?...do you have a catback or stock exhaust? Just wondering why you don't like the SSRs? Wash

I only hear anything if I have the radio off, and more so on cold days before the car heats up.

I think the SSR sound great. No issues here at all I am sure it’s a personal preference thing.

I have the ark catback, which is why the pipes add so much noise. When paired with the stock exhaust they apparently don't sound bad but combined with the Ark they're really raspy and make the exhaust sound cheap. I tried to live with it, since I probably will only have the car until December, but I can't, it's just too much to my ears.

I regret the NGT primaries, I had fitment problems and had to spend more than the cost of the part to get them fixed and installed, then the rasp was crazy and I had to spend a lot of money getting good quality cats to help with the rasp. I should have waited until someone provided a high flow cat solution but patience is not my virtue. Intake is also on the list of regrets for me.

I feel your pain. I beleive I was the first one to get AP Intake. I installed them and made a video/thread with all the issue I had. My hood never closed flushed and the way I looked at I should not have to remove the rubber inserts in order to make it fit. I am always paranoid and check my intake connections before I drive. When I reached out to AP about my concerns they claimed that they sold hundreds of units and no ones has had an issue. Spoke to Nick and he said he would talk to AP and never heard back from him. The funny thing is that AP made updates to their newer intake product. I beleive a member in here got his heat shields with a drain hole and mine does not have the drain hole. Honestly I feel bad for all those that spend their money on it without knowing the issues they would have and AP not being great at owning up to it. I will be selling mine and gettting the AEM or the JT. Anyways good luck.

I got the redesigned Stillen intake. I had it professionally installed but they said there were no issues with install and fitment looks good.

My only issue with the stillen will be when you have to clean the filters. That clamshell cover is a tough cookie to crack. However, they did right by me and took back the original, so no ill feelings towards them.

Injen to me is the best looking design, and I was going to go that route. I wanted heat shields and plastic so I patiently waited for the AP. I am not mad at the fact I had these issues, I just wish I would of waited for others to review. I jumped ship and was the first one to buy/review it and it cost me lol. At the end of the day, not a big deal. I will sell them and buy the AEM/JT or Injen. I am a gear head and I don’t have an issue working on cars, it’s actually my passion. I Grew up working on cars my whole life at my dad shop. If I pay for something I expect it to fit properly and if it doesn’t I expect good customer service. I didn’t get either but what matter is that everyone is aware of the issues so they can better make a decision before buying.

Thanks for the info Falanger, and other members ! It was either you or someone else that provided a you tube showing the ill sounding Arks with the downpipe...it was terrible.... but ive got stock so im thinkin ill be okay
