Interesting Discoveries Thread (Good or Bad)

Happens all the time for me. I’m booked in for the 10,000km service on Friday I’ll ask them about it
It'll be interesting to see if they are aware of this issue (ref. post #1147), and whether there's been a software update to rectify? Let us know what you find. Thanks.

Sounds silly but discovered that once you have the car in manual you can put it back to auto (D mode) if you push the gear shift down.

This is GT2/drive-by-wire only, but there is one thing you have to watch out for - the issue[1] where the car goes into N instead of D, and you don't realize it until the light turns green and you hit the gas, but the car doesn't go anywhere and you eventually realize that the car is in neutral, so you try and shift it into drive, but nothing happens because you need to put your foot on the brake again to shift. Meanwhile, the traffic behind you is getting impatient at the idiot who's sitting there at a green light. Ask me how I know this can happen. :-)

[1] Gear shift problem

I put on sunglasses for the first time in Stinger and was shocked. HUD disappears.
maybe it's because of polarized lens?
I was thinking sunglasses would make it dimmer but not completely unreadable.
This is completely normal happened always in my other cars as well.

Turn Signal Not 'popping back' on Left Turns...
About 1/2 the time, my turn indicator stalk is not popping back after left-hand turns. Started out occasionally a month or two ago, now it's about half the time. Depends on speed and sharpness of turn, e.g., normal-speed turns will not return; sharper/faster turns will pop back. Will have it checked-out next time I'm at the dealership. Anyone else with the problem?

Yeah mine does something similar. A long sweeping left hander won’t trigger it to pop back but a 90° turn will. It hasn’t annoyed me enough to do anything about it yet but I’d be interested to hear what your dealer says about it.

Rotating the display helps some.

I learned that the radio preset change toggle on the steering wheel can also be used to tune down or up if you hold it in either position. Prob old news for folks that drive other Kias, but new functionality for me...

I been with KIA for a while, new to me.

I've been driving my GT Limited for 8 months now and today I just realized that when you switch the drive mode to sport, the HUD speed is italicized. A nice little touch.

If you listen carefully as you rotate the temp knob by one click at a time, you can hear the little motor in the AC unit make adjustments with each turn. It helps to hear if you're in Park with the radio off. I figured the motor was moving the door to the heater core. Is this common in a lot of modern cars?

I never noticed that, good find.

I am having the same issue om my '18 GGT2. Going to stop at dealer tomorrow.

Has anyone noticed a mechanical sound when engaging the parking brake? I did it once in the dead of night and heard it.
Good to know / hear that the parking brake has actually engaged..... unless it’s a fault i need checked out?

By that do you mean the whirring sound? If so that's normal and actually much quieter on the Stinger than other Kia models I've driven.

Wow! Really? :) Back in college I had a '74 Saab Sonnet III. Very interesting car in many ways and one of the features it had was a throwout bearing on the 4 speed manual transmission. When you let off the accelerator, it would go out of gear and then when you pushed on the pedal again it went back into gear. I averaged 35-40 mpg out of that 1.7L V4 engine. Could easily coast from 55 mph to 70 going down a moderate hill. Made it great for drafting during the oil crisis years too. Here is a pic of a Sonett just like I had (even the same green)!

Fed ruination, another sad story of blighted hopes and design. Look at that puss, only a bumper is all you see.
