Interesting Discoveries Thread (Good or Bad)

The 3.3l GT is top of the range here. I think the AU model may be almost the same as yours. Yellow is no longer available but there are still a few MY18's at dealers. Here's a link to our specs.

1. Please excuse typos in previous and future msgs.
2. Yes I also thought the GTS had the same spec as the GT twin turbo 3.3 that you get in Oz till I read that in 2019, Europe will get the same (superior) Australian spec. exhaust.
3. UK doesn't get the space-saver tyre (though I did), nor do we get the top spec rear view mirror. As well as auto-dim, it has buttons for gate & garage +1, as in the US.
For me that's a serious omission.
4.We don't get the remote heat, start, etc (Canada & US do) because here it is "illegal" to have a vehicle unattended while engine is running! That is bunkers, and a top quality and more comprehensive British made unit is openly the market! ..but it is subscription-based.
On the others that I have seen, an inferior fob replaces the good Stinger's unit.

Maybe a member here can throw a light on these issues? I'd be grateful :
mirror replacement, and a subscription-free remote start.

As i have a short narrow space and have to be guide into the garage by the wife i rely on her sight. But the sensors alway work and alarm rapidly when i get extremely close. Ive have never switched them off or new you could.
Mine rarely if ever come on automatically when parking after driving unless I’m reversing. If I’m going forward pulling into a spot I have to manually activate them. I pretty much always turn the cameras on and be guided by that, the sensors can be way too sensitive

Rather than putting it in reverse and then drive to activate the sensors while trying to park, have either of you just considered hitting the button on the center console that activates the sensors? Not sure if the US and UK models have them but the Australian one does. It’s on the bottom left next to the camera button. I know the US don’t have the 360° camera, not sure about the UK, so not sure if you have the same button setup. Anyway it activates and deactivates the parking sensors. View attachment 19827
Yes that button is on my car too, but it is quicker, for me, to flick the shifter back & forth than to look or feel for the switch further back on the centre console.
This is a software glitch, as I mentioned, and by not fixing it Hyundai/KIA confirms coner- cutting. It is annoying and it detracts from their aim of making a comfortable GT.
Sensor should do what it is meant to do. It just work. It does on my SL.
Why should you have to switch it on every time you actually need it? On the SL you can switch off the annoying buzzer, only if you want to. Say a car gets too close to front or rear of your car when you wait at the lights. These things show the level of logical thought behind the design, but then you'd expect that from the Germans.

My parking sensor switch stays on once turned on, and they always work. There is no sign of a universal Hyundai/Kia bug here. Maybe you are accidentally turning it off, or it varies by market/featureset.

No inadvertent manual switching off. I've been quite specific on the issue. It's the same on both cars and had already been reported to Hyundai, to no avail. As you know they own KIA.
It would be interesting to know if they've patched the s/w and it rolled out to the US.
Do share if you find out.

They need to be switched on every time I believe. When you enter a closed space ensure you push that button all the time.

That was my point: I discovered that if you've turned the parking sensors off, they stay OFF. Restarting the car does not turn the parking sensors on by default. Odd, because the ISG is exactly the opposite: you have to physically turn the danged thing off each time you start up. (That is what proves its politically correct presence.) I discovered that turning the parking sensors ON leaves them ON each time you restart. ISG button light lit means it is off; parking sensors light lit means they are on. Of course, at some point you'll see that the ISG button says "OFF" on it, which means that in order to be actively "off" (according to the button), the light must be lit. And parking sensors button must be lit in order to indicate that the sensors are in fact on.

Mine are on automatically on start up always make a noise front and rear when I reverse out of the garage, I don’t touch them, but when I park at the other end of the drive they don’t operate unless I manually turn them on. It’s a bit weird to be honest

Totally different experience here. As @ScottE said, once on the sensors stay on. If I turn them off inadvertently, they stay off until I turn them back on; but if I shift into reverse, they will be on temporarily until I shut the engine off. If I want them on next time, I have to turn them on.

Im a bit stumped then my sensors are always on, ive never turned them off or on they just operate on.

I noticed the display changes light modes automatically.......(noticed driving under overpass)
2ndly When you press the traction control long,so the stability goes off as well. And then sport mode and gun it......
It really puts the car into HOLY SH*T mode!!

I put on sunglasses for the first time in Stinger and was shocked. HUD disappears.
maybe it's because of polarized lens?
I was thinking sunglasses would make it dimmer but not completely unreadable.

Yes, because of polarized lens.

Just ran a forward/reverse test to be 100% sure.
Moving forward without camera - no reaction from sensors
Moving forward with camera - sensors active
Reversing - camera and sensors activate automatically. Turn off park assist and this deactivates sensors but cameras stay on.

Yes, because of polarized lens.

I read somewhere that the solution for this is a small square of light window tint on the inside of the front windshield to cover the HUD area. I'm getting this done next Wednesday at a tint shop. I can post the results that day after work when I pick up the car.

That's an ugly solution, in my opinion.

Try different sunglasses? I wear polarized and although the brightness in daytime is certainly reduced by them, on a bright setting, it's still visible.

Drove home from work tonight, as always turn the cameras on as I’m pulling in so I can park in the garage. No activity from the sensors. When I reverse back out of the garage the sensors work on the front and back of the car. Now I’m starting to wonder if there’s a fault with my car because they don’t come on each time I turn on the camera

In 9 months I've had that happen maybe 2 or 3 times.
