Pulling Driver's Side Turbo

Even though Nick likely conveniently never noticed my DM , I did actually manage to get the passenger side off as well:

Old turbo taken off:

New junkyard turbo installed:

And yes, I know there's no one under any obligation to answer my questions, but my offer still stands: I'll happily answer any questions about turbo removal to others who want to swap it themselves. Granted, I won't sit there and tell you every step and guide you through it for hours, but if you come upon something that just isn't working, don't hesitate to ask!

Where did you find the junk yard turbo? Is it off a Stinger or are other cars using the same turbo?

Are you seeing any internal damage or shaft play in the turbo you took off? From my experience, a screeching sound from a turbo is often a leak, not damage. If the sound was caused by something failing in the turbo, there should be some sign of it once you get it off.

I found the junk yard turbo from a junk yard with a Stinger... ... I'm not sure how I could make that any clearer, lol

As for the sound, I have zero clue where you got screeching from. I was very specific when saying "police siren", and I didn't let it get bad enough to feel actual damage in the shafts. I refuse to wait until I'm at risk for metal flying into my engine. I've always been super in-tune with my cars, so I often nip things like this in the bud. By the time you feel actual damage in the shaft, you were at risk to have it blow up  The beginning of the sound could very well be minor warp in the shaft, something that doesn't quite make it feel loose, but affects its spool-up.

Obviously, as stated in the post, replacing the driver's side stopped the police siren, so clearly something was up.

I would love to know as well. Id love to source some used turbos :)

Search junk yards... that's what I did *shrug* However, in regards to the LSD, this particular junk yard Stinger was rear-ended, otherwise I would have considered checking for an LSD on it to nab, too :p

what junk yard did you go to? The local pull a part here doesn't even have the Stinger listed in its search pull down.

I'm almost unsure of how to reply to you: don't search just one junkyard, search as many as you can. I searched online through several until I found one that had a Stinger GT model...

That’s the problem, none of the junk yards around here have the Stinger listed to search for. Only thing I can think of is to call each one, I’ve called two and neither even knew what a Stinger was. Just wondering if you had any secrets to share.

@Waynerm002 just posted pics of his totaled Stinger. Looks like it'll be parted/auctioned off soon. Maybe get in contact with him and ask about the location of the yard it's at to see of they'll part out the engine.

I have the official instuctions from the OEM shop manual, but that wants you to pull the motor. A lift or a pit helps tremendously. The leverage to get the extensions in the right way would be tough on your back. I have a pit, and got the DP's out relatively easily. Once they are out, you can fully access the turbo mounting flange tot he head and drop them back and out the same way you got the DP's out. only trouble might be oil and cooling lines on the drivers side since its pretty close to the body there.
Where did you get the shop manual? Is there a PDF file somewhere online?

I'm really only interested in a passenger front fender and an LSD. He was AWD I believe and also gray, so no luck there.

How did you go about removing the oil drain tube flange bolts, as well as re installing them?

Very difficultly... there is a video on youtube and I will be taking some pics when I remove mine.

I Can't find it either

Maybe he removed it??

Was done from underneath with a 1/8th drive swivel and extension obviously, was an awesome tutorial he even put blue tac in the socket to hold the 10mm bolt in place when he replaced it.

They are very tight.

Man that sucks. Thanks for checking for me, I'll keep updated on what I come up with.

So I decided on replacing the flange bolts with a basic auto stud from napa. Lined up much easier and also held the gasket in place. For me atleast that was the ticket.

Considering how much was adapting and figuring out how (not so much can or can't), I can't accurately say. It did take me 3 days, though, lol

I had to make my own special ultra-low profile allen ratcheting wrench as a taste of what I went through, hahaha

EDIT: Forgot you asked about the passenger side, though I think it slipped my mind to answer because I haven't really looked at it nor could it be that different. The biggest hurdle will always be that corrugated pipe that I later surmised was the oil outlet from the turbo (and felt a little ashamed I didn't recognize it sooner).
Hello, i will do it by myself, do you have a picture of this "special ultra-low profile allen ratcheting wrench" and what is the bolt for?

Removing the engine mount makes the task much easier

Are head studs reasonable to do in the car, one by one? Because being able to do those and hybrid turbos without pulling the engine is intriguing...

I guess I may find out shortly...
