Clear cut intake winner?

With the release of the AP Intercooler, my OCD is wanting to get the AP Intake to match the Intercooler, but I’m wanting the BMS Intake to match the JB4.

What are the odds @Terry@BMS releases a BMS Intercooler?!

Higher odds than AP to release a JB4 equivalent. :D

AP intakes is really nice it’s my personal favorite intake .... there worth the extra money in my opinion compared to the BMS ones ...but if money is an issue the do a DIY intake and you can do that under 100 bucks ... if money is not a problem AP intakes are on sale in Khartunerz.... talk to Nick he will hook you up ...

I’m thinking of the bms intakes any of you guys wanna share some reviews. How is the sound on them? Are they loud in comfort mode? Worth the upgrade for the power alone? I’m trying to cut down my 0-60 and 1/4 mile. I have k&n drop ins so I’m thinking intake or just adding the big mouth snorcals.

I have the BMS intake and the big mouth scoops and love them. The sound is the same as any other open element filter. It can be as loud or as quiet as you want depending on your drive style. In comfort mode and driving easy, it's nearly silent. Hammer it and let off the throttle near redline and you'll get a lot of noise. IATs are barely above ambient too.

I installed a custom intake with parts purchased from Amazon for $120 and I completely agree with this assessment of the sound. Couldn't have explained it better myself.

So many damn intake options now that I have no clue which to go with...

The BMS seems like a good option for anyone that wants an easy to add or remove intake for dealership visits.

The custom option is probably the easiest for those that want an add/remove option.

I bought a used K&N Typhoon for $270 and I'm really happy with it, it was on in 30 minutes without any issues. One of the members did tests on here and found the K&N heat shielding worked great and the filter was seeing temps barely above outside ambient while moving. The best intakes are the ones with the shortest piping that still pull in outside ambient temps.

As for the sound... holy moly, it's loud, all the videos I've seen don't do the sound justice. The people that are saying it can be as quiet or as loud as you want are not telling the truth. The only way to not hear it at all is to accelerate at the rate of a 1986 Yugo. You will hear it with normal acceleration, slightly to moderately aggressive driving it will be loud, full throttle it actually quiets down, but the BOV will be pretty loud whenever you let off. I love it, I won't lie.

Wow you got a steal for that price.... how fitment? Did the recirculated hoses go on fine with no trimming needed ?

fitment was perfect, but yes I did have to trim one of the recirc hoses down. I cut off just under an inch and it went right on, it should still work when I return it to stock.

Def will. I cut ~2 off of mine and it still fit on the stock intake.

I think it's got a really great functional design, but I do not prefer the look of it. The open airbox with the grid on the bottom just looks tacky imo.

I really like the korean airbox mod with the metal plate and holes cut in the airbox if you're trying to stick to simplistic. It's likely cheap too.

WHY isn't there an aftermarket intake system designed using plastic? It's not all about getting more air to the engine using bigger pipes and less restriction. You can get "more" air with a smaller pipe and a more dense (cooler) air charge, than a larger pipe with less dense (hotter) air. After you have been idling, driving, or even thinking about entering a southern state like Arizona, those metal intake pipes heat up and act as a heater for your intake air, before they even reach the hot turbos. Why, oh why, do we keep ignoring science? I can probably guess, being as I work in manufacturing. Tooling costs. The cost to tool a plastic intake is SIGNIFICANTLY higher than metal piping. There is a reason they come from the factory in plastic, people, to include all the factory 700+ hp cars out there! As far as dyno results are concerned, when was the last time you drove with the mood open and those intakes pulled fresh air from the open sky? Close the hood, simulate daily driving by bringing the CAI pipes up to operating temperatures, then compare HP/TQ to stock.

Please excuse my rant, but I want better. I want to be proven wrong. To answer the OP's question IMHO, I believe, right now, the best intake option is a set of K&N drop-ins and the Velossa Tech scoops. It just makes sense and there are Stingers in the 11s with the same.

I ordered the bms intake today. I have not been able to get over 114mph on map 3 for 1/4 mile so adding the intakes and doing some more 1/4 miles on map 3 is not a bad test.... I had the k&n panel filters before that.
