Burger Tuning JB4 for Kia Stinger!

I am 99% certain the official inspection procedure that was posted on these forums started with removal of the ECU to give better access.
Yeah not sure if it varies from tech to tech ... dealer to dealer .... but at least from my experience and I literally watched them do it ..... they didn’t remove the ecu .... same deal with 2 other locals that I know that have stinger they didn’t remove the ecu and those were different dealers in Illinois they attended .... not sure I personally would have preferred for them to remove ecu and look more in depth .... but yeah who knows .....

When there is a mandatory safety recall, the dealer should be following the instructions, step by step. I wouldn't be satisfied with my mechanic just fishing a grommet down there and calling it done. But this is getting off topic. My one time occurrence of error codes was not related to the JB4 and Terry helped me figure it out.

A few questions for Terry or anyone really.

I already searched the entire N54 thread and this forum.

Do I need to update any of the firmware or is it updated before it goes out to the customer? Can I plug it in without hooking up the Bluetooth device? And just use the default map until I can swap and gap plugs?

The production firmware is always a few versions behind the published firmware as we don't start shipping the latest firmware until we're 100% sure it's solid.

Thanks Terry, I am asking out of pure ignorance. I have no one to help me locally. That is trustworthy. And me and wires don’t agree or computers. I just earn money off of computers and the internet. Have no clue how to use this stuff..

lol it's all pretty easy stuff, you shouldn't have any problems.

Hey Terry, going to do spark plugs then the jb4 later today. Just a couple of questions though.

1. The jb4 app is the one for 27.99 on the app store right? This is the one that connects with the bluetooth dongle I bought?
2. The obII connection. Is that something I will have to install as well? Or does having the bluetooth dongle eliminate the need for that. I'd rather not try to get wires in and out from engine bay to cabin.
3. What is the best way to update firmware on the jb4 before I install it? So that I can get it on and go immediately?

1) Yes
2) Required
3) You can't, firmware can only be updated once installed. No need to do it immediately. The updates are largely optional.

Hey Penguin,

Routing the OBD cable is really easy. You just separate the grommet in the firewall (to the left of your brake pedal). Once you separate it I would fish it through connect everything and then use some extra electrical tape on the part of the OBD that will be in between the grommet and metal part of firewall.

Can you explain more on the electrical tape part

Sure, When i installed (a couple of times) the jb4 i noticed if you dont want to pierce through the grommet you will be pinching the OBD cable between the grommet and metal. To ensure you dont damage the wiring a little bit of extra electrical tape where the cable is pinched at would help.

Ahhh, makes sense. Does it still go through the same hole? (Wire illiterate here) lol

You sir have confused me :).

If you are actually piercing the grommet to go through no need for the electrical tape. But some people (like I) would rather just go around the grommet.

Lol it’s really easy you should just go out to the car and try it. It look me like 2-3min. The grommet can be pushed out a bit and you just push the wire through and get it hooked up and where you want it. Then after you can wrap some tape around the wire Where it’s going through the fire wall as one side is hitting metal(it’s not sharp).

I know you are right I just need to do it. Been afraid lol So it should take me what, 20 minutes to install the whole jb4?

At the most... it will take you a little longer to get the fuel wires installed into the harness and all that, but that is a one time deal.
