What's the allowed slope on a certified drag strip?

I couldn't find an NHRA document stating it, but did find one for a motorcycle sanctioning body allowing for up to 1 percent slope. I also found an online post stating that NHRA used the same criteria when certifying a track - anyone have a link to an official document for that?

Here's a quote about Pomona from a race team tuner circa 2008, taken from an NHRA site - discussing taking advantage of both temperature and slope on that track to get good times:

Alan Johnson, who tuned Schumacher’s U.S. Army dragster to the 4.428 record, said, “One of the big factors is that we race at Pomona at the beginning and end of each year, so you usually get a good track. Also, there’s a bit of a downhill slope for the strip, but that doesn’t help at all if the starting line doesn’t have enough traction to take the initial hit of your car. I’d rank the Pomona racing surface as one of the top two or three in the country. When you take into account how long this place has been around, some of the numbers we put up in Pomona are pretty amazing.”

NHRA Certified tracks are supposed to be less than 1% slope and most good ones are close to 0%. But not all tracks meet those NHRA guidelines.

Tork put his new dragy to work last night and ran a 12.11 as part of this 1/2 mile with a 2.28 60 foot. He ran 1.91 to 1.95 60s at the track so this is looking like 11.5 potential run at the track. (Posted to FB)

Looks like similar 1/4 mile 120mph traps I'm running only with a lot more mods.. Shrug.

The track I go to in Illinois and Wisconsin are very close to 0% if not at 0% ....Great lakes Dragway Wisconsin and Byron Dragway in Illinois ....

Anyone notice that when I run 11.98 with dragy. They say I'll never run that at the track. But when tork runs 12.11 dragy they say he'll probably run 11.5 at the track???

Tork has slips showing 1.91 60 foot so do the math.
But factoring in temps and heat soak at the track he may be more 11.6s

Again, here you go tooting your own horn lol.

You do see he ran at the track already? You just ran in the dead of winter. Im sorry man but everyone is right you will not be close to your dragy time with your mods in the summer at a track. The heat soak alone will crush your dreams. Dont believe the plenty of people telling you I dont think anyone cares anymore since you are the one who keeps bringing it back up.

More mods is a bit subjective since wmi is a big one but it is safe to say you guys are making very similiar hp looking at traps but also safe to say he will run .3 faster ET... Shrug.

@Tonkabob looking at the picture you have do you have those exhaust tip slip on thingys that are like $215? I was just looking at those
Yeah, got them from import shark and love them. I was on the fence as i am not a bling guy but they are super cool.

So I've read anecdotally - but I've yet to see their official certification requirement. Some claim that Pomona is well over a 1% slope.

And yes, some non-certified tracks are WAY out there on slope, especially ones that were converted (e.g. from an old airstrip, or abandoned road bed) vs. purpose built. Yet another variable calling times into question.

RWD is all about traction. With 120mph traps it's simply a matter of a high 1.7 60' to get in the mid 11s. Funny thing about having a dragy is the numbers speak for themselves. As it stands you're quicker than he is. :)

My man, you've even said you would be in the 11s at the track having never came close. Now that's an lol for ya.

I used to race at Pomona Raceway in the late 90s and it was pretty level. Not like our favorite late 90s race track, Carlsbad Raceway. :)

lol WMI is not a big mod, and it can be turned off. It's probably giving a slightly higher benefit than your FMIC.

LMAO you have no idea what I have for my car. Ill place a wager with you $1,000 we can both send it to Terry if youd like that I hit 11s my first track day.

It's ok April 27th you'll all be having goat for dinner. I wasnt tooting my own horn I was pointing out how they perceive thier dragy number vs someone else's. Just 12 weeks...
