Need Window Tint Advice

Did you install yourself ? Curious what the price is to have someone install if you had someone do it ..

Oh no, too many horror stories. I paid someone to do it. I think it was 4 or 5 hundred. It's been a while.

All tint meters allow + or - 3 VHT%, the roll of tint can vary along the length. Almost all laws will allow +/- 3% total light transmission.

I would at least go with 35 in NC, it’s going to keep you legal or so close I doubt you would ever have an issue.

35% with already factory tint on windows, it will end up him at around 30%. Since legal is 35% and he can go down till 32%, it will be outside legal limit.

I’d be willing to take that risk, it might just be 32% and not 30. 20% will get you pulled possibly... 30, seriously doubt it.

The Stinger does not have tinted glass. If it does then it is too light to skew the aftermarket tint.

The guy who did mine told me you might have problem at yearly inspection. I don't know if it's a part of yearly inspection or not (just moved here in August). I just calculated the 29.5 and rounded to 30% based on numbers I got.

I did 45% tint and ended up at 38%, so by that calculation factory tint is at 85%.

70% solar, it will NOT read 70% though, 85.... maaaaaaybe. And it doesn’t add like you would think especially with such high transparency.

Interesting...again 85% is too light, can't even tell there's anything there.

Agree but it will still skew aftermarket tint.

Formula “should” work like this....

Current tint....(.85)x’s New Tint....(35) =‘s (29.75%)

Some shops have 38% tint. But like I said, the way a tint meter works is with calibration glass and is allowed a 3% variance (hence N.C. Law at 32%). BUT it should be calibrated in the same lighting conditions as the test will be in (many officers will do it wrong). The citation would automatically be dismissed if it was removed in 15 days.

As far as inspections, if you get 35% they are going to ask has it been tinted, then you say yes, with 35%. They MIGHT throw a meter on it.

Like I said I’ll throw a meter on mine at work sometime this week and get some more numbers.

Thinking about getting it lowered as well. @Kamauxx --> any recommendations on where you got your springs from?

Any seller should work. I got em from ebay because I didn't want to wait on drop shipping.

Got 35% all around and 5% for my sunroof. Personally don't like the blacked out look. 35%, you can see in the car when close but still have privacy from a small distance away from the windows. Check out Llumar FormulaOne Stratos ceramic tint. It blocks IR light like no ones business thus keeping your cucumber cool. Love the stuff. Also, ceramic doesn't mess with your radio reception.DJI_0301_3_20181010231152006.webp

I'm in FL, 5% all around. Keeps it cool and I like the privacy. Have had the same on all my past cars. Yes, illegal but rarely get stopped. The most recent was 1yr ago by a state trooper. It's a civil violation $150 a window fine. No longer have to show removal, just pay.

Our Stingers come with Solar controlled glass. I haven't had my car during the summer. Does it help with heat? I ask cause the Sorento has it and it was hot as all get out during the summer in there.
