Anybody knows if the Stinger comes with a low oil light? I know theres a low pressure light. I saw a pdf showing it is available but diesel only.

Nothing in the manual under indicator lights. But this webpage shows what the low oil pressure warning is supposed to look like. Hope that we never see it! (Except when the engine is first started? I'm a bit embarrassed to admit that I have never looked for it in nine months, heh! And I don't know if it flashes on, then winks out like oil indicator icons are supposed to do.)

Wouldn't low pressure and low oil represent the same problem?

Not at all.

Severely low oil level would obviously cause low pressure, but low pressure could be due to other things (like a blockage or fault at the oil pump). Moderate low oil level by itself would not indicate low pressure, but could cause heat and wear issues.

Bummer. The reason why I ask is I have a catch can and after a couple of weeks I'm already seeing a large amount of oil. The only think I have is the jb4. A low oil light would help just in case I forget to check, heck even my wifes 03 honda accord comes with a low oil light.

Sorry, but you are misinformed. There is no oil level sensor or indicator on your wife's accord. There is a low oil *pressure* indicator, which we have already discussed (page 347 of the 2003 Accord sedan owners manual):

That said, the amount of residue in the catch can should be insignificant compared to the total amount of oil in the engine, and you would normally just be burning it off in any case, so the system is designed to allow for that volume to be "wasted" over the life of the oil.

Ahhh, hadn't thought of that, thanks.

Her oil light comes on everytime its low. Once I fill it up the lights goes away. So I'm not sure if her sensor is going out or it does both.

If it does (report level as well as pressure), it's not documented as such. Why build in a feature and not inform owners of it?

How low are you talking here? I'd be seriously concerned that a slight drop in oil level is resulting in a low pressure situation, something is not right there.

The low indicator mark on the dip stick is to ensure there is enough oil in the system so that it can be serviceable for the recommend change interval. If you had - say - half as much, it would wear twice as quickly. It is not there to ensure there is enough for the pump to be able to be fed. That pick-up is located at the very lowest level of the system, and would still pick up oil if you were *drastically* low on oil.

So unless they added a feature you don't find on any other petrol-based vehicle and didn't bother to document it, I'd be a little concerned about the behavior you are describing.

Side note - motorcycles, at least all I've owned, only have level sensors.
