2018 Stinger Recall - Wire Harness May Be Damaged By Fender

Thanks for this Bal. Just leaving the dealer after one of two Sportage recalls got done. They couldn’t do the second one since THEY DIDNT HAVE THE PART but knew I was coming over a week ago!!! Guess I should do this one myself as well on the Stinger since the service dept at Paramount Kia in Asheville Just Plain Sucks.

Mine car is going in on the 12th of Jan for this. I just opened the hood and with a flash light can see that my cable is approx half an inch away from the fender wall. I don't ever see that it will be an issue but hey a no cost fix from Kia.

I just did the same and can see a good gap between mine but that does look like a sharp edged hole. Taking it in anyway as one of my many trips back to the dealer. Wish I got lease mileage compensation.

You say that you have had many trips to the dealer, is that for the Stinger? I've had my GT2 for nearly 6 months and have had no issues. As of yet none of the problems on this forum have shown up in my particular car. Lucky maybe?

Between the two Stingers I’ve had.....a base model that I sold and the current Premium, there’s been about 5-6 trips in 10 months, all non-maintenance items.

From interior to exterior to high performance - everything you need for your Stinger awaits you...
For those of you that want to identify and fix the issue yourselves, I've attached a .pdf of the Service Bulletin including pictures and repair steps.
Holy crap! That is an involved replacement job.

I have no idea where you guys are looking "with a flashlight". I can't see a danged thing.

One issue with my GT2 AWD since I got it three months ago: Stereo...and after the update didn't help, they are replacing it. They checked out the safety recall we just got, not a problem on my car, but they are still going to put something on, to avoid any issues. They said if it was a concern, they would have given me a loaner until it was fixed because they wouldn't knowingly let an unsafe vehicle go.

The whole replacement job is supposed to take longer than the hour to inspect the harness, but not a lot longer, maybe two hours. (Iirc from what I read somewhere yesterday?)

they didn't have the necessary stuff to install. they ordered it.

Didn't have it! Well, they had better get their crap together, because these grommets and replacement harnesses are going to be needed on a lot of Stingers. The dealerships had better just figure on having some on hand at all times. In an ideal world.

The recall came through on my file Friday...while it was in the shop for the stereo. When I dropped it off, it wasn't noted that my car was one of the effected.

Taking mine in tomorrow, they said they have the parts needed if something is wrong. I’ll keep you guys posted on how it goes.

They need lots of gromits but doubt many harnesses are damaged. Mine was also a half inch from the hole.
Its a 10 minute job so thats 1 hour for the dealer.
Its a good time for them to take inventory of all the ecu tunes and piggyback wire tap marks.

Merlin, if you look at the pics Bal posted you can see where to point the flash light. I used my smart phone light and can see it fairly easy.

Show me. I downloaded the PDF instructions and am now thoroughly confused. I have the most powerful, small flashlight in the world and could not locate any wires "harness".

got my recall wire harness letter.....should I reinstall the oem air filter or take my chances with the cai installed?? In other words , if they see the cold air intake , can they void the warranty?

Its easier to see if you remove the ecu.

Got my letter yesterday unfortunately car is in body shop with about $12K of work on drivers side. Wife was hit by 18 wheeler getting on Freeway. Only injury was car which won't be in my garage for another week or two.

@bal thanks for posting the info. Will take a look today to make sure Im okay. I have not checked my VIN yet but my car certainly falls within the build date period.

Glad you guys are ok. Obviously could have been a lot worse. Large vehicles tend to win.
