Predictable Kia response to my brake rotor issue. Denied warranty claim. They are making me pay to resurface crappy rotors and put new pads on. Service guy indicated I’m not only one with low mile rotor claim denial.

Funny he had aftermarket rotor he was reccomending I buy. Lol!

Kia Stinger ....POS

I’m probably selling the car as I have had too many things go wrong. And warranty coverage seems to be a fight with Kia. I dont buy nice car to fight for warranty entitlement. Im not wasting my time with call to Kia corporate. I will just pay the $500 buck and then rid myself of the problem. But Kia has lost me as a more premium car buyer. Ill stick to their throwaway cars for commuting. Its very clear they are trained to find things that they can use as excuse to deny warranty.

Have you tried bedding your pads? There is a nice thread about the proper procedure. Resurfacing rotors is not necessary is most cases. Most likely it is just brake pad debris on the surface of the rotors causing your issues.

I can understand your frustrations but the service center can only do so much. You might have better luck with the corp line.

I’m selling Tye car
What was the reason for the denial? I had mine reseurfaced but not replaced, however the pads were replaced under warranty. I called kia corporate as well.

Did you call corporate or use the VIP line? How many miles are on your car. We need more info before you just say kia is not standing behind their car.

I got mine fixed for free and I was outside of the 12k mile 12 month brake warranty (13,400 miles). This after being denied by a dealership as well. Kia is standing behind it. The dealerships are just doing what's in their rule book.

Ya I've noticed that as well.

OP call the vip line. They will get it taken care. They know there's an issues.

On another "brake" thread, @CaliSting said his car is over 12K miles, and he was going to try get his warranty retroed. I guess the Kia people he's working through don't agree this time, for whatever reason.

I have well over 12K miles on my brakes. No problems or even much wear yet. But I drive like a grandpa, which, I am. :p When they need attention, I am inclined (still) to go full monty race spec rotors and pads. Why not? I have UHP A/S tires and the UHP summer Michelins sitting waiting to either sell or get put back on come next spring.

Why do I insist on UHP (186 MPH+ rated) when I will never go that fast? Because it tickles my predilections to use the highest rated road tires available. Likewise, brakes seem like a place to go overkill. Something about "being ready" for a track experience delights the imagination. And besides, practicality says that a racing spec set of rotors and pads will be ready for anything, even especially repeated anything, that could possibly come along.

It doesn't matter that the OEM rotors and pads are good enough for emergency braking. I want to know that I can run the car FAST and brake for all the curvy bits and never have to be concerned that pad material will drape the rotors. The first upgrade will obviously be race spec pads (they will be available before I need them, I'm quite sure). I will only replace the rotors when the stock rotors are showing signs of dropping efficiency. That could take a while! :D

Well this thread is discouraging ...dadgum....my 2003 vette with 37k miles on her is still on the first set of pads...did I drive her hard? lol...yell hell yes....did I brake hard? When I ran the Texas Mile and got back to the pit area my rotors had a blue hue to them...like in hot....and these Stingers are eating up pads at 13k miles?...thats so sad :( Wash

and these Stingers are eating up pads at 13k miles?
No. Only speed demons who think they bought a car that can behave as if it is on the track wear and melt their OEM pads. I bought the car to travel in, long road trips, with lots of fast passing. The car can be fitted for the track. Your Vette is an entirely different approach, with the track in mind as the dominant agenda. I'm not surprised to hear the contrast with the Stinger. The Vette is no gran turismo.

LOL you can say that again ! Although I did drive her to Houston and back to big D one time Ha ...:)Wash

It actually started way before 13k miles. There's even people on here who had issues under 5k miles.

Not sure what the problem is exactly. I didn't have any problems with my Z06 either, nor any Lexus, Mercedes, GTO, Camaro, or any other luxury, sport, or muscle car I've owned. Kia just didn't get it right, which is why they're correcting (or band-aid'n) the problem. I'm just happy they're acknowledging there's a problem with them instead of ignoring it or trying to brush it off.

As I learn more about this pad deposit thing, I can say that my vibration came, went, came back again and went again, after the rotors were “turned”. On my drive up to NY and back I didn’t experience the issue and I did encounter some higher speeds on that trip where I was certain it would show up. It seems it is as said, the pads we got were designed for less dust and will leave deposits when overworked.

What brake issues are you having?

You should reset the pads to the rotor rather than pay to have them resurfaced.... besides if you'll pay for a resurface,,,, just buy new rotors.....

The Stinger doesn't come equipped with real performance pads, while I personally think they should they simply don't, you need to upgrade them if you're going to be doing any track type braking. I mean they're brake pads, if a $100-$200 upgrade is too much money for you then go ahead and sell the car.

Brakes are a compromise like everything else. Softer pads shed dust and might grip a bit better. Hard pads create more squeels, need more pedal pressure. This is a passenger car. The brakes are Brembo, not Kia.

FWIW, I sold my G8GT with 200,000 miles and factory pads and rotors. My GTO has PBR brakes at 98,000 and factory pads and rotors. Not bragging, just stating the facts.

I'm sensing a lack of diplomacy may have intervened on this issue for you .............thanks for being here , good bye .
