Don’t know if this has been mentioned before but washing my car on Sunday for the first time I found that the wiper arms cannot be fully extended away from the windscreen they hit the bonnet, so beware that any quick action could damaged/chip the paint. Those of you who take it to a hand car wash, like I do regularly may also need to tell them to avoid potential damage. This is my only issue currently with this vehicle.

Very interesting, and thank you very much for the warning!

On my VW, you have to do a special wiper lever/ignition key sequence to get the wipers to swipe up and halt. This allows the arms to be pulled away from the windshield without hitting the hood (bonnet). I believe you can also manually rotate them at least a few inches upward to achieve that clearance, but I don't know if it's mechanically recommended (someone did it to my car one day when it started snowing).

my only issue

Anyone knows how the Optima wiper arms work? Same or better? If better, can they be interchanged?
For us northerners, this stuff is important, If bad winter weather is expected, I fold the wiper arms away from the windshield, in order for them to be relatively ice free and don't get operated when frozen to the car. Bad idea and costly to repair. Ask me how I know. :)

I saw this when washing my car last week , I just put a small piece of clear 3m protector in the contacy spot , cant see it , works like a charm

Not much of a frozen here in Sydney but I understand how that can present problems in your part of the world. You may have to set the wipers to full wipe then switch ignition off & the pull arms away from the windscreen.

Ha, I did exactly that the other day, so I went to the manual right away and here are the 3 pages on the wiper blades.

Basically, engine off and within 20 seconds move and HOLD the wiper switch to the MIST position (2 seconds) until the blades go into the upright position.

Just went to get my car washed at a hand car wash, and almost had a heart attack. When the car was being hand dried with cloths, I noticed the guys had raised both wiper arms. When I ran over to tell them that the wiper arms can only be raised when in the service position, it was too late. The paint on the hood was already chipped...

ouch , fill the chips then put some 3m auto bra material over the contact point , works like a charm !

Ran into this issue myself today. Does anyone have any recommendations on a good chip repair product?

Go to your dealer and get a touch up paint pen for your specific car color. You can also find them on eBay or amazon
