Extending Windscreen Wiper Arm - Beware

so weird that:

A) the UK wiper stalk is so different (using numbers that increase upwards, as opposed to words that increase as you go down)

B) no MIST function, despite it being mentioned in my manual

C) to perform a single use wipe manually, you need to push the stalk towards the floor, yet in the USA/Canada etc. you push it towards the roof

i mean wtf, why is it so different and why doesn't the manual reflect this? Sat in my Stinger at work three times now and can't get it to work..

Almost sounds like they installed the wrong stalk?? Take your owners manual and the car to your local dealer and ask them to explain it. If they can't, maybe it IS wrong.

yes i will take it to the dealer and see if they have any luck. thanks guys

Check your manual in the car. Don’t hang onto your stalk for too long though! Lol

Here's my manual - sounds like i need to turn the engine on and then off and then pull the stalk down for a bit. Pretty sure i tried this already but will try again and not hold on too long to my stalk lol

interestingly in the image it shows the mist position at the top, where in reality it's at the bottom. I know it's a 'one size fits all manual' but v. confusing when it's opposite to what is actually required!

6CE13609-F5B0-44EF-B6DD-CD8399762988.webp It was too late for me. Someone did it to my car before I got it. A friend noticed it, I hadn’t. I showed the dealer and they pretty much didn’t take the blame but promised a bottle of touch up paint. Timing wasn’t on my side as I’m getting the car Clear Bra protected next Tuesday and want the paint to be dry. I wound up buying the last only bottle from my dealer as no one else had one, they didn’t either earlier. So I probably bought the one I didn’t have sent to me. This will be rectified some time. I got it covered but to say I’m upset, is well...
I knew from here about the wipers before I bought the car. No one touched it since I took possession. So a prep person did it. Or paint failure. It’s not in alignment where the arms would touch if just pulled back, so some acrobatics were involved. Maybe the hood was open and they yanked it back. Too complicated to recreate. It was to be. I haven’t had any other chips yet so paint failure is low on the list for now. Rock strike is not impossible but doubtful based on the damage and no mark on the windshield.

The paper is just before I touched it up.

Do you think having to go through this weird procedure to pull up the wiper arms is a design flaw? I'm an old guy who has owned many, many cars & trucks and I've never seen such a thing. When I first discovered it the other day on my new 2020 GT I thought "what kind of crap is this"?

My 1974 Firebird had a similar issue. Retracting blades to below the hood cowl. Had to get them to point up and turn off the ignition. Then it was safe to service them.

This is so sad. I feel bad for you. The wiper arm design is totally, totally stupid!!! I don't care if some (very, very few I imagine) other car manufacturers have the same design. It is a poor design. Like who really cares if the wipers arms stick up a bit more. It is better the scratched bare metal. KIA should have put some protection on the edge of the hood. I just bought a new 2020 GT2 and now I'm going to have to stand guard should I take it to a full service carwash or a detailer. You know, you just know they're going to yank the wiper arms up to dry the windshield and BAM!!! you're going to have bare metal on the hood edge.

A small strip of PPF should ease your fears.

try changing plugs on a 911 ....................this is childs play ........

I'm having a full frontal clear bra including the hood installed tomorrow and then I'll have no fears.
It is still a poor design to most likely have your hood paint removed for the sake of not seeing a bit more wiper arm.
