I typically use Mobil 1 full synthetic with Fram Extra Guard as a filter. What is your preference?

Whatever the manual says big homie! Us Aussies are pussies!

In the BMW forums I am often, Mobil 1 is considered some of the best.

Mobil 1 full synthetic with Mann filter in wife's volvo, every 5k miles

Mobil 1 full synthetic with Mobil of frame filter in GMC, every 5-6k miles
(Tried Mobil 1 10k miles 1 year oil change once but did not feel comfortable)
Cheapest high mileage conventional and frame filter in my beater Pontiac religiously every 3k miles

From interior to exterior to high performance - everything you need for your Stinger awaits you...
Mobil 1 full synthetic and probably KIA oil filters. I'm sure the stock oil filter have been hammered and slammed on the KIA engines during testing. Changing oil will be every 3K-4K miles and before and after any ~1000mi trip.

With all the cars before, I just went to BMW when the car told me to. Never had any issues. If you google, you'll find anything from "Never" to "Your car will explode if you don't change it every day with special walnut oil out of tibetan beavers, gathered at full moon"....

As a normal driver and with a 7 year warranty, I'll go by board computer.

Mobil 1 is my go to oil. Definitely a Synthetic oil. I've tried Royal Purple in order to get a performance advantage (For Personal Driving Pleasure) and it seems to let the engine rev more freely...but seemed to lose that advantage a little more than halfway through it's lifecycle. I also tried a couple different versions of High Mileage synthetics....but didn't notice any difference...so I just went back to Mobil 1. My current car has a drop in filter that can be changed without changing the oil...so I just get the basic filter and change it 2 times before the next oil change. The alert system usually comes on between 6,000 and 10,000 miles. I go by it.

Wait. Royal Purple really gives a performance gain? I never even considered that a possibility...

I never actually got it Dyno'd...but compared to Mobil 1, I definitely noticed the engine rev'd more freely. In fact, when I went back to Mobil 1 it seemed to me that the throttle response was a little slower. It's all just a feeling though. I once tried a Mobil 1 0w that they promote for improved gas mileage and it had a similar effect...but not to the same extent.

Thank you for the explanation. Very interesting... I will definitely keep this in mind for the future...

If you have ever changed your own oil you would see why you should change your oil every three to five maybe six thousand miles. I've never noticed Up Performance change in 30 years if there is it's very miniscule.

I always change my own oil. Ever since I was a teenager. It's all anecdotal....but you have to try different things to notice different things. My last 3 cars had 1. 183,000 miles 2. 186,000 miles and Current 160,000 miles. All over 160,000 miles and they still have life when I trade them in. There are many things that give noticeable changes in the performance of a vehicle. Brake composition makes a huge difference in stopping feel and distance. A silly little heat dissipating spacer below the intake manifold really helped the car feel much livelier after hours driving in the hot sun. Again, it's all anecdotal...but if the cost isn't significant...I'm willing to try things...and I can tell you they sometimes make a noticeable difference. Not always...but not everyone is a snake oil salesman. I believe most people set out to accomplish the improvements they tout for their products...it's just that some fall short...or have too many trade-offs.

For the Stinger I'd use:
Idemitsu 5W-30 (solid OEM oil brand) + Kia's Filter (unless there's some data out there that gives reason not to use their filter)

5W-30 in California for better MPG + cold start protection

Unless you plan on tracking it more (which I doubt this is going to be someone's track car) then I'd throw in 10W-30 or higher
I really like how the manufacturer permits the owner to adjust the oil SAE viscosity per individual necessities.

I will use mobil 1 Extended performance oil and filter. These filters are great compared to many (almost all) other filters.

BTW: Since all recomendations are fine with high temps and the generally little resistance of that very runny oil.... why not generally use 5W? Whats the advantage of 20W in not so cold areas?

20W is nice if you do long distance driving in deserts + lots of high revving to provide sufficient oil pressures.
In other words: you drive your car hard in hotter climates = 10W/15W/20W (0W/5W might lose sufficient oil pressures = losing protection at high RPM and high heats)
If you don't push your car then 5W/10W.
