Not sure what I'll get back in a buyback. I have negative equity going in but it looks like the rebates were $2000 more than negative, plus I've got $2500 in payments to get back and all the other misc taxes. Kia has to look at the sales receipt and payment info (plus accessories I put in the car) and come up with the final $ for a buyback. If that $ is > $5K to keep it I'll go with the buyback.

Ah. Got it. Well, good luck and keep us all posted.

I've kept my car, even though my buyback was a massive $11K as it included all of the things I've added to the car (wheels) but I didn't see anything that I wanted that was in the same price range at this point. It came down to the fact that my car will be one of the few yellows that was completely repainted, and honestly the car is beautiful. I was interested in a Model 3, but my wife will be getting hers soon, so there's no point in having two. I plan on keeping this car, and buying a used Tesla Roadster, Lotus Elise, or Alfa Romeo 4c in the future as a toy :D.

Other note: I haven't had any further paint chips since the intial set after repainting. I would strongly encourage people that have had their cars freshly painted to not drive them for a while after you have it repainted to let the paint cure.

When they offered the buyback and you supplied receipts for the items you bought for you car, did they say that you would have to give them those items—suck as aftermarket wheels—or were you allowed to keep those items if you had returned to them the car?

Once again we are on the same page sir. I do like the car although it is likely my last Kia, I will keep it and enjoy it as much as I can. I have decided that instead of making the heavy modifications that I wanted to, I will instead buy used car like a Golf or something like that to bang around with. The car is great, Kia sucks.

DING DING DING!! Couldn't have said it better myself. The car is an amazing machine to drive, but the company that built it has definitely reinforced the old stigma of "Well it's still Kia, what did you expect?"

I thought for sure they would get above that with this car and especially with them being the sister company of Hyundai and the Genesis G70 basically being the same car but on a smaller platform...... Maybe they will learn one of these days, maybe not. At least we got the Stinger out of them first. :D:D:D

Yes, the items remain on the car. They will not pay you for something you bought for the car and decide to keep. If so, people would be buying all sorts of accessories and having Kia pay for it and put it on their next one or sell them.

I think Kia has done a good job of taking care of their customers. No other manufacturer I know of that has had paint problems would repaint and give you $5K. Some other manufacturers would't even repaint the car. No other manufacturer I know of would buy back the car for paint problems much less pay off the car and give you the money for prior payments plus accessories you bought for the car. Kia has gone above and beyond in my eyes. Now some of the dealers suck, no doubt. Luckily my dealer is one of the better ones.

Ok. Thanks for the clarification

I'm sure if I requested to keep those items they would have obliged. If you were going into it and decided to keep some of your purchased items you would just exclude those items during negotiations. I was more surprised that they were willing to pay for my wheels which were rather pricey.

Yeah. That’s awesome. Now, I’ll have to decide if I want to keep the aftermarket wheels and tires(cost me 1000) on mine for the buyback or put the factory 19s with summer tires back on.

What are you going to move on to?

I looked at that, I had a hard time finding a RWD with a LSD in the GT trim. Although, I was offered an amazing deal on a Red AWD GT2 that had paint issues...lol

I don't envy you, this is a really hard choice to make. I struggled for a LONG time.

And what did you end up with?

Scott, are you doing a buyback as well? Thought you were keeping it since they painted your bumper(s)? Get it back yet and if so how does it look?

This.

And it is the dealerships "dealing" poorly which is being conflated with Kia's intentions.

I am debating. The paint was very well done, and it was a complete repaint. Everything matches well. I do, however, feel that the shade may be ever so slightly lighter than it was. Now, I’ve seen 20 different yellows in person, and they are are slightly different in shade. But, I came to really love the exact shade I had. Also, it may make more financial sense to for me to consider a swap or a buyback and then buy a new GT or GT2.

Wait for a 2019 (maybe), it seems ALL colors are flaking and only the yellows were covered. I feel bad for the other owners, IMO ALL should be covered by a repaint on a case by case basis if paint is flaking off. Paint process can't be flawed only on one color, should be on all colors.
