Is anybody else suddenly getting random hyperlinks appearing in posts? This has just started today for me. Hyperlinks are appearing which take you to Amazon or other random retailers. It’s annoying AF.

I’m viewing on an IPad. Thanks.

Next time report it to Sal...alias Kia Stinger

Not sure what you mean by ‘next time”. It’s happening all the time, they’re in every post I read.

Nope still happening. The funny thing is when I tried to quote one of the posts here with the hyperlinks in it, the hyperlinks disappeared when I pasted it into this message.

Yeah I see them on my iPhone. Some of them turn up between messages like ads, others are in the message between the message text and the quote/reply/likes etc. I’ve been seeing them for a while just figured it’s how the forum makes money by selling advertising space.

No need to message Sal. This is expected behavior. How they are presented depends on your browser and the settings you have (or what's built in) - the forum software embeds links behind many key words and, yes, that is one way the site (and many others) are funded. Forum software and hosting services are not cheap.

This is because the links are not actually part of the post - they are added dynamically every time the page is presented to the user - and could be different every time you view it, or for every member.

So why has it just started now? I’ve always had the banner ads in posts and I’ve put up with them because I understand why they exist (even though they shit me) but now I’m getting hyperlinks AND banner ads. I’m starting to feel like a battery hen being continually dripfed a diet of subliminal advertising until I give in and buy something. To my knowledge, no settings have been changed on my device recently that would have made these things kick in.

I regularly go into iPad settings then go to safari open & scroll down to clear history & website data as per my screen shot. This may help.

To the best of my knowledge, they've always been there, but I could be wrong.

You might have updated your device and changes to the browser caused them to appear. It's not uncommon for OS or application updates to change the way things look or work.

I'm on a laptop and the only links I've noticed more of lately are words in my post getting turned blue (linked to something, somewhere): I don't click on them anymore to find out what they link to.

You contracted some malware, do a scan and get it cleared up. There are many out there that do this. I had it at one point also and got rid of it using malwarebytes. You might have to try a few of the scanners to get rid of it as they all seem to find different ones and some effectively clean them up and some don't.
