Sporty Exhaust Crackle

My stock Stinger with the Kia bi-modal exhaust has burble (not cracks/pops) when you let out the throttle. Tune not changed at all, so it's there stock you just need a different exhaust to hear it. I'll try to remember to take a video.

I need so many more details. Your exhaust is stock?

Dear KIA

Wonder if we can have some exhaust crackle in Sports mode? During overruns and downshifts etc.

It would make the driving experience a lot more exciting!

I'm with you but it's not for everyone. I believe your key words are "in Sports mode". If KIA put a dual mode exhaust system on the Stinger, they could do it easily. Quiet when you want it to be quiet and sporty sounding when you're driving hard. Audi does it with the S5. When the exhaust opens in sports mode, you can hear subtle crackles and pops. It's not loud like an F-Type but it's enough to make things interesting... in sports mode. KIA was rumored to be working on a dual mode exhaust system but it seems it may just be a rumor.... That's too bad.

They made one, Aus and NZ only. I have one fitted and it's exactly like you described.

Crackles and pops come more naturally on specific engine layouts due to the harmonics of firing order/timing (think inline 4 and 5 cylinder motors). For other layouts like our turbocharged V6, it is much more difficult without really expensive custom exhaust setups with exhaust manifolds designed to force the pulse timing to follow similar harmonics to the above mentioned engines. This engine has an internal exhaust manifold so it may not even be possible.

The other option is with a tune that spits a little unburnt fuel into the exhaust when you let off the gas. It sounds good (to some people), but over extended periods of time I think it will cause your cats to fail sooner.

I agree - I was cross shopping a MINI Cooper Clubman - John Cooper Works Edition with the special John Cooper Works exhaust that was controlled by a remote. Would love an option like that from Kia for the Stinger GT. And we can still keep it a GT (on the quiet side) but have a "Sport +" or "Race" mode for a little more aggressive crackle & pop fun!

very few factory cars get that snap crackle pop stock. The AMG and Jag F type come to mind.
I just saw a review of the Jag ...............I could stand that noise for about 10 seconds !! not for me ............imho !

Hi, Does it sound a lot better than standard exhaust ? I want to trade in my Optima on a Stinger and definitely want the sports exhaust. I know it cost $2,500 extra, I was also looking at "Borla" they do sound very similar on you tube vids.

Hi @Flameangel, welcome to the forum, some dealers have bi-modal fitted to demos so you can experience for yourself, I’m considering the X-Force Varex Bi-modal cat back system I have heard this on vid & in the flesh & it gives a good sound, another member here has the Ark grip system fitted, sounds good but is dealing with the drone, I cannot speak for the Borla though.
BTW would you mind adding your general location to your avatar.

Thanks for adding your location, lots of Vic members on here.
The x-force system retails @ AU$1995.00 supply only, I’ve had quotes from authorised supplier/fitters ranging from AU$2200-AU$2800 supplied & fitted.
Not sure what our colleague @Ozstung paid for his Ark Grip system, but if the reads this he may added some additional information to your question.
And FWI, I personally do not like the Kia system, not a bad sound but just not for me.

I read that the exhaust is quiet because the European market has noise pollution parameters and lots prefer a " quiet refined note",
but here in Oz we like our V6's to sound like V6's or even V8's Lol

I took this clip the other night because it was too hilarious to pass up. This is a Honda of some kind, a good quarter mile ahead of me. Imagine how loud and insane this must sound when you're right behind or right next to them....
