Transmission Control Unit (TCU) Update

I don’t know if the shift by wire cars are set up differently. The gt1 are the strangest of the three . You step up from gt but know LSD (Limited Slip Differential) rearend. They should have all been shift by cable with LSD (Limited Slip Differential) it’s a gt car. I’ve noticed that the plain gt rwd is the fastest of the bunch. Even though the all wheel drives have 2 pounds more boost per turbo for extra weight I guess. But also I think the shift by cable for some reason is a little better set up.
I never understood the LSD thing, I'm glad Kia wised up and made it standard on all 2019 GTs, doesn't help us 2018 GT1 owners though. I seriously want to find one to install on my car.

I can turn Tc off and put in manual mode and In sport and hold every gear to the car hits rev limiter and shuts car down. I don’t know if some of the others do this gt1 gt2 awd. If anybody can write back with there Experiences .for these cars being gt they all have little differences in power train set up.some people got burned with the 18 inch tire awd only going to 155 mph. Small thing but it would bother me aliitte
I have a fully loaded awd model in Canada and with traction control and stability control off in sport mode it holds gears and will hit rev limiter. I made sure of this before I got the car and tried it on another stinger on test drive.

I’ve seen them for sale on eBay.or Kia will put one in for you. Makes the car so much more fun to drive.

So I bet they all will do that. But some people must be doing something wrong. Not having everything set properly.

What discovery? It does the same thing in Sport mode unless you have disabled TC. Did you think it wouldn't auto shift in Comfort or Eco when it does in Sport? You have been participating in all the discussions about this, so...?!?!?
I guess I thought the GT1 with the "T" shifter and manual gate was different somehow? I don't read for comprehension when in denial?

So, if I want to not have the car take over again, I have to kill traction control? Stability control? Both? And make sure I am in Sport mode? Have I got that straight, now?

that car will shift up for you if you have traction control on once you hit the limiter, but it should stay in in manual mode until you put it back into "D", this is in Sport mode.

My one big gripe with the car is that the DBW transmission in my Limited edition reverts back to "D" every time the car comes to a full stop regardless of what mode you're in, whether the traction control or stability control is on or off. That drives me nuts and causes me not to use manual shifting. If Kia could only reprogram the tranny to stay in manual shift mode once you actuate the paddle, I would be very happy!

Well, this is exactly the difference I have with a GT2; the "T" shifter "manual gate" leaves the trans in manual mode. And when you come to a stop the indicator shows a "1". The car stays that way until you move the shifter back to the "D" position. Even though the trans shifted up for me in Eco and manual gate yesterday, it did not drop out of manual mode; the indicator still showed what gear I was in.

I seriously hope Kia comes out with a fix for DBW model, and hopefully sooner rather than later.

One of the forum members had posted that this quirk is rectified in the 2019 model-- the DBW stays in manual and doesn't revert back to "D". Shouldn't be too much of an intellectual challenge for Kia to retrofit that programming on the 2018s.

They all do it. What most of us have been asking for is the same proper manual shift behaviour in Sport mode even if you leave TC on/default setting.

It will stay in manual mode at a stop if you are in Sport mode.

Which modes are you referring to for 2019--all?? The 2018 already does this in Sport mode (or Custom, too, if you pick the Sport mode for the transmission option).

Ya my gt stays in manual mode if Tc an rc is off in sport mode on. If you don’t shift quick enough it cuts fuel retards timing.also when I stop it stays in manual does not go back to drive mode. That’s the issue they have all these cars A little different depending on model or country it got sent to I guess.also transmission learns so the more aggressive you drive the more sporty the transmission will get. But it can take 500 miles plus of driving to change transmission.

Whose is different behaviour than yours? As far as I know they are all the same, except possibly the Aussie version. There is a lot of misunderstanding, though...

Nope. As long as you are moving, it stays in manual. As soon as the car comes to a full stop, back to "D". I tried it in all modes (I drive almost exclusively in Sport mode), with the traction control on and off, and with the stability control on and off. Same result every time. Full stop--> back to "D". You have to pull on a paddle to get it back into manual mode. At EVERY stop, you have to hit the paddle before driving off. Hate it!

Has far has the different trans by wire or by cable.having 18”tires on gt with lower governed speed. Lsd or open dif. On rearend.there little things they did different for ever country from what I’ve read over the last year.

Nope when I stop it stays in first gear. Have never had it go back to drive by itself.you have gt1 right

Maybe kia made the base gt the sportest has far has they might think people would buy base gt to really modify. Being the lightest and most basic out of the three . Who knows

Yes I think your right. But your car has the phone charger pad doesn’t it.
