Interesting Discoveries Thread (Good or Bad)

An "glitch" of sorts: just discovered that USB drive derived music, on "shuffle", will just pick randomly from the entire array of files on the drive, instead of randomly from the album you are listening to. "Big Bands" shuffled to a track from an "Amethystium" album; if that wasn't jarring! This is stupid unless you just don't care what music pops up next.

Second "discovery" today (tonight, actually) was the way the headlights light up reflective road signs up ahead, above the headlights cutoff. There must be some secondary "halo" of weaker light outside the pool of headlights glow.

A third discovery was how in the dark you may not see that the mirrors have been bumped into the "turned inward" position. When you signal a lane change you get a face full of flashing yellow light from the bottom of the mirrors. I came down Big Cottonwood canyon and didn't see that my mirrors were turned in. Not until I got on the freeway and signaled a left lane change and looked down to see what was behind and to the side of me, did I discover that I couldn't see. A car flashed by on the left and it was like, "Where did he come from!" Then I saw that my mirror was angled inward. I have no idea how that happened.

In regards to your #2, I thought I noticed a white ring above my sight-line when I had my high-beams on. Pretty neat.

My old '03 Celica had something like what you described with the low-beams. I called them the Mickey Mouse lights. If it was dark enough and driving through a heavily wooded area, or through a tunnel, you could see both "halos" lit up above you. Or, just perfectly illuminating street name signs.

I think that is the led halo that highlights the signs....I could be wrong.

I was messing around with my mirrors in a parking area....if you hit the switch farthest up on the armrest, it will move the mirrors in..there they will stay until you push the left side of the button....you could of inadvertently moved the mirrors in somehow.....but I was just seeeing if my mirrors angled down while in reverse......the base 2.0 does not....sadly, but I did see the display off button :)
Yeah, I should have said "I don't know when that happened". I know how the mirror positioning button works. I just can't figure out how I managed to angle my mirrors inward as I went through the start up procedure. That hasn't happened since I first learned about where the mirror angling button is. I've been very aware of it. I guess that last night I wasn't "very aware" for some reason. I did have my wife with me. The canyon road was very dark. It had been raining. A car was coming up the canyon as I was backing out of my angled parking spot across the road from the restaurant. I was thinking of many things.

any one else afraid of losing your car to a thief?....Well the car wont go far without the fuel pump, whenever parked in a sketchy area, just open the hatch..look to the right, you'll see a small door in the panel. Open it up, just a turn of the knob...inside you will see a fuse panel, pull the green fuse...thats for the electric fuel pump.......have a nice time knowing no one will be driving it but you!

Surely this has been mentioned, on the GT2, if you press the On/Off button while stopped and in gear, the car will switch to Park and shut off. I have found it saves having to press the 'P' button and then press the off button.

If you are idling with the Auto Hold on, in c. five minutes (the length of a brief conversation with someone you are dropping off, say) a message appears in the instrument cluster informing you that the electric parking brake is being applied, and you feel this slight roll/bump as it engages.

Those headlights were ahead of their time. I owned a 2000 GT-S model (two of 'em all told). My favorite car I've ever owned.

guy quotes mirrors and comments on headlights.......time to go to work.

Front parking sensors couldn’t see the pole. Not entirely surprising, but figured I’d share.

Handy tip if like me you can't be bothered to go through the screens to find the 'display off' button or don't want to take your eyes off the road for too long, you can set 'display off' as a favourite and then all you need to do in order to turn the screen off is press the 'star' button

Celica?

Doesn't just holding the power button down for 2-3 seconds do it?

It has on every UVO-equipped Kia I've owned or rented..
