hey all!
I have had my Kia Stinger Premium for 3 weeks now. I noticed that the traffic icons for accidents and construction, etc are not showing up on the nav map. I made sure that traffic info is turned on. I’ve already called siriusxm and they sent a refresh signal all with no resolve. Did they do away with this feature or is my nav system not operating correctly? I had a 15 optima SXL before the Stinger and had traffic and the interface hasn’t appeared to change that much. The traffic flow is showing (green, yellow, red) but nothing else. I called the Kia dealership too but the salesmen were clueless. So I’m hoping someone here can fill me in. Thanks!!

When I went on my first road trip, oh, two and a half weeks after getting my Stinger, the NAV showed "incidents" up ahead; a couple of accidents and some closed exits, etc. But I've noticed it isn't consistent. Sometimes I have seen the prefered route turning red and the NAV changes the original route and sends me a different way: not always would the "incident" icons be shown. The omission that annoys me is road construction: it goes on for months and yet nothing on the NAV shows anything happening. Why? It's all Juju anyway to a guy born in the Fifties! :P

The traffic info on my nav is about 50% accurate, which makes it mostly useless. You never know if the incident shown is already cleared and many incidents right on front of you or that you are stuck in do not show at all.

I find this to be true on any mapping system I use. Since Apple CarPlay, I no longer use the in car system. I recently tested out Googles system and it’s the same. I think it is all dependent on when they receive info and update the system.

I appreciate the responses, but nobody has directly answered my question. Are the accident, hazard, construction, etc symbols supposed to be showing up on the main map ? They are not on mine. If they are on yours then something is prob wrong with my nav system which is what I’m trying to figure out.

Thanks !!

No warning symbols, ever, not even once? Maybe you live in a "Dead Zone"! ;)

Correct not even once! I doubt it. I live outside Raleigh, N.C., we have plenty of accidents here I can assure you. I’m stuck in plenty of traffic every morning. Just trying to figure out if I need to take it in for service. It sounds like i do

Why don't you check your settings for which items should display on map...

Try the Reset button? (That's always my final suggestion :))

Do you have Sirius?, If I remember correctly there are two possible ways for the nav to collect that info, one is Sirius and if that is selected and you don't have it, that could be the problem. The way it collects it is selectable in the menus somewhere..might want to check into that. I don't have it on my GT, but do on the wife;s Sorento and unfortunately, she has the car for a couple days but I remember somebody posting about that somewhere.

Not stinger, but I've had two Sorentos and the traffic / incident service is totally useless, and always has been. Same behavior on both - sometimes simply not available at all (no overlays on maps), sometimes it is, sometimes incomplete, rarely current. Friday my daughter and I drove 150 miles each way on major interstate (pretty much I-85) and it was often not there, when it was, didn't reflect current traffic conditions. We encountered two major issues where traffic was at a standstill on the way back. One time, nav showed green, other time, simply didn't show anything.

Thankfully, I know better than to depend on it, and Waze routed us around it just fine.

Yes it is siriusxm traffic info. I’ve made sure that all settings that need to be checked are and I’ve called siriusxm multiple times to have them send a refresh signal. Sirius is telling me i need to take it to dealership and when i called the dealership they had no clue. So I guess I need to take it in. I went to convenience settings and traffic info was selected there. I also went into map settings and it was selected there. Under siriusxm traffic all the options were selected.

Wow, surprised. We have it on our 2016 Sorento and works great. We just took a trip to Florida and back and caught every backup we hit and even a car fire along the way.

Well my current is a 2015 and before that a 2011, so perhaps they finally switched to a more reliable system.

the sat nav is in Terms of traffic and accidents totally useless :cautious: for me it doesn't Show any traffic or accidents, not even if I'm stuck in a trafficjam for the last 30 minutes. Differet routes? Not with this. I have to get my phone out to see what's the best route.

I never signed up for Sirius and the three months wore out and they sent their promotional material a couple of times and I never bought into anything. I just use NAV in the car "stock". So I don't know if this Luddite is out in the woods or not but probably. Back in the late spring (during my three months of free Sirius service, heh), on my way back from Payson at a marriage, on my way to a graduation at the UofU, I was following the NAV, and it suddenly rerouted me from I-15 to side surface roads. I "obeyed". And sure enough, up ahead (I use the 3D map view), scrolled this red line on the freeway leading to an accident icon. That was pretty cool; instant alert and rerouting. It increased my confidence to just let NAV do her thing and my job is to say "Yes, Dear". Have I given that up by not buying into the full Sirius Service; seriously?

The traffic thru satellite is supposed to be ongoing whether you sign up for the entertainment package or not.

For as nice as the features are built into the car (and as cool as the directions projected into the HUD are), none of them even compares to Android Auto or Apple CarPlay. Especially with CarPlay supporting Google Maps now. While I have had the in-car nav give me a good bit of warning, Google's piece is far more quick and adaptive. Case in point, my drive home has a good share of traffic and one big section of construction by the airport. Speed at which I can get through most of that is dependent on both time of day and stop-light pattern. Google knows both, well. The stock nav told me to just stay on the road and deal with the traffic one day and the next which had worse traffic didn't update me at all. Google's picked up both days and re-routed me immediately. The last of which not only rerouted me, but dynamically switched my route based on what position in line I was at the light... Nav said "red light detected, please turn right".

Freaking cool!

I have driven across the country 4 times using Android Auto and will never use anything else than it again (maybe GMaps in CarPlay if the Pixel 3 sucks). It has alerted me to potholes on the road, bad traffic ahead or even just a quicker route. All things that the built-ins can't do. On top of that, it gets my text messages and reads them back to me. Allows me to open my garage, turn on my lights, turn on my TV, change the temp in my house, let the dog out, preheat the oven, disarm the house alarm all while calling me batman... It's the future dammit! and man is it beautiful.

TLDR; Don't pay for SiriusXM, get Spotify instead and use your phone. The in-car nav is about 5 years out of date compared to your phone and using your own device opens up a whole host of other options. Not worth your time to take a trip to the dealer.

PS; Based on the recall about the sound issue, they may not be able to do anything about your issue aside from replacing your head-unit... Which requires disassembling your dashboard. Not something I'm willing to have done considering everyone here complaining about squeaks and rattles. I'd only do it if I had no choice.
