Kia Stinger Navigation Map Update

I got my 12.5 SD card map update like 3 days ago. Got it by calling the number that was posted on this thread and the person in charge followed up with me several times because they stopped sending out the v12 update so I had to wait for the v12.5. The guy was very professional in my opinion, I think his name was Michael. Also, I didn't have to pay for anything. No issues with updating except that it just took some time around 30+ minutes. Everything looks Ok to me so far, did notice the phone messaging support which is nice. Anyways, a newer update never hurts.

How was it free?

What is the phone messaging support? Did they finally add the ability for the car to read txts via BT (NOT Apple or Android)?

Purchased the update a few days ago and called Kia Corporate (Canada) to get it reimbursed. They said they usually only reimburse it within the first 6 months of getting the car, but they did it anyway (I got the car 9 months ago).

How did you get the update in the first place? Go to your dealer? My map version is: NAM.10.47.43.713.103.2 not sure if that's recent or not (I suspect it isn't)...

10.47 is the one that shipped with my car, and I updated to V12. V12.5 is the latest.

The original version and V12 are shown here, and I believe someone posted the V12.5 map version number in a later thread as well.
Kia Stinger Navigation Map Update

As you have the original version, for a one-time update to V12.5 at no charge call Kia Canada at the 'Contact Us' number on their web page. In my case, they confirmed I was eligible, assigned me a case number, and directed me to download the upgrade from MNSoft and then submit the details to them for reimbursement. They asked if I wanted the cheque sent to my home (which I did), but it ended up going to the dealer anyway - the reimbursement took 3 or 4 weeks, I believe.

got my update free cause my Stinger was leased with an old version. Thanks Kia for doing right thing. BTW the 12.5 update seems to be an important update IMHO.

Yes it is, with many updates unrelated to maps that should not be charged for, ever.

I just called them and spoke to their premium customer service. The person requested for me to se d a screenshot of my current nav map version which is v10. He will escalate it for me on Monday since it was almost at the end of his shift. Let's see how it goes. Also I can confirm, doing the radio swap for the fader issue does not update the nav, it only updates the firmware.

Good info, thanks! My car is 2 weeks old and has the old version. Not sure if I need the new one (I use Apple Carplay for everything) but I set up an appointment for my dealer to update it.

Man... the KMA (Kia Motors America) (Kia Motors America) guy whose been working with me has gone MIA recently too. I've just been assuming he's been on vacation or something (I can't have two people leave Kia on me, can I?), so I don't know. Speaking of NAV, is that not something we can update ourselves? I thought we got free updates for X years or something, I just didn't know if we had to request it or do the update ourselves.
Well, I've seen two ways on this forum of getting the NAV update: downloading it and getting a reimbursement cheque. Or receiving a new SD card in the mail. That was how I got mine updated. I didn't even hear about the download option (or only way, apparently, for some people) until a few weeks ago, reading about it on here. As for how many of these updates we get for free, I don't know an answer to that. Some here have said only one free update. Maybe so.

Not to thread jack- the nav system we do not get any free updates in the US. Many of us were able to get one free, particularly in instances where there was an update while the car sat on the lot. Logic being that a new car buyer should have the newest version at time of purchase.

It does bother me that the only way to get the other updates is to pay for a nav update. If I don't care to pay $150 for a nav update but do want the Bluetooth text messaging update should I have to pay for that? To me that would be like Apple or Google charging for cell phone system updates.

Has anyone checked with a dealer to see if they can and will do the update gratis?

Mine finally got approved and the order was placed. The customer care person said it will take about 2 weeks to get it to me. I'm happy.

You don't need the nav update for the text messaging. Check your firmware version. After my radio was replaced, my firmware version is on 98. before it was 87. After the replacement, I now get the text messaging on Bluetooth - reads the message to you and my map was still on version 10

But is the firmware available without the Nav update?

Exactly what I thought had been said. So you DO need the Nav update to get the new firmware.
