I washed the car first, then I attempted to take off the rear badge off. I applied goof off around the emblem and I attempted to remove the red badge using floss.wasnt budging, so I left my car for about a min to get more floss, then I noticed chipping.. thing is I don’t know if the solution dropped all the way down to the end of my hood as well as near my back up camera, cause I’m also having chipping there as well. So I believe it’s a combination of the car wash, the goof off, and the paint adhesion is poor, all that caused my chipping
Got it...now i am curious if the goof off did cause some kind of reaction! I did use something similar, goo gone, when i did mine but only AFTER i had removed the rear badge via a hair dryer and plastic trim tools. I have no paint issues in that area.

I would rather have paint issues then electronics and engine issues lol
Very true here. I have an E46 M3, which platform is plagued with bearing failures and oil pump failures, both of which do catastrophic damage to the engine. Items are addressable but not easy nor cheap. Paint chipping i can "live with" for the time being!

I think I finally got bit by the notorious paint problem, but I've never seen this specific issue mentioned.

A few weeks ago the Los Angeles valley enjoyed heatwave temps of 115 degrees. One sunny day I noticed a single drop of water on my hood. I thought it was odd but was busy. A day or two later, in the middle of a long dry summer, I saw the same drop of water in the same spot. when I tried to wipe it off, it was gooey. It looked to me like the paint bubbled up. I was afraid to touch it before showing it to the dealer.

Unfortunately, I had to ignore the issue for a couple of weeks. The paint dried and I had to go on vacation. It actually looks all black right now- the bubble's there and it's hard and so are the smear lines. Goo gone doesn't wipe them off.

Anyone know what the issue is? I'm about to drive over to the dealer and want to arrive with info on my side.

That is something that landed on your car. It does not originate under the paint or clear coat. If it did, it would not have hard edges. So, in my considered opinion, this not a paint adhesion issue. You've parked under something that drips, more than once.

Agreed, it almost looks like tree sap. ive seen similar to this on my jeep while camping and under large pine trees. That has always come off relatively easy however, and dont ever remember it affecting the actual paint.

This is all from a single large drop. I brushed it with my hand and smeared it into a mess. The bubble sort of popped, and it looked black, but it's hard to tell cause (at the time) my hood was so clean it looked like a mirror.

I'll try parking it in the sun for an hour to soften it and see if I can use the goo gone then. Part of my hesitation to scraping it off before was fear of damaging the paint. If this paint bubble was a defect, I didn't want to mess it up before the dealer saw it. I think my pictures are enough evidence, though, so I'll give it a shot.

Sap from a tree?

False alarm, guys. Thanks for talking me down!

With more confidence that it wasn't a paint problem, and after more sun and goo gone, I finally took my fingernail to the problem and scraped it off. I'm happy I got that extra coat of CQuartz now!

I love in the San Fernando Valley... which dealer do you go to? I got my Stinger at Galpin Kia in Van Nuys, but they’re going to close down next month . If anything to get my car maintained or looked at I might have to drive all the way to Simi Valley or car pros Kia Glendale... also that heat had been killer. I try to park in shade all the time

Is that the sunroof??? Or ur stinger it’s just black?... man if it wasn’t for the paint chips... this would have been the perfect car imo. Budget wise, value, features, performance, ergonomics and looks. This car is in a category in its own... I went to the Toyota dealership the other day. Saw a fully loaded Camry, 40k. I got my Stinger for 35k lol and the Stinger imo is way better than a Camry. Also we’re talking GT1 only

@Abaloz Nice to see another SFV native!

I actually went to Galpin Kia first and almost bought there, but Car Pros Glendale beat the price. I hope I didn't put Galpin out of business!

This is the hood of my black car. I had to use my nails to scrape the dried stuff off, but it worked. I only have one paint chip (to the metal) on my car, but it's at the leading top edge of my rear wheel well, so it's probably from a rock or something, right?

Anyway, no question the Stinger gives you a lot of value for your money. I love having such a unique car.

MAybe a rock... but yea I was about to get a ceramic silver from car pros. I got a really good deal from a Galpin. Unfortunately Galpin and Kia are having issues, where they don’t agree on a lot of things, maybe that’s why I got the car for soo cheap

I have a Black 2.0 premium model. I have had it exactly two weeks and I am noticing a lot of paint chips on it. It started as one on the hood over the weekend and the dealer got a paint pen to touch it up. When I stopped by to get the paint pen, I started cleaning off the massive amounts of pollen and I notice a heck of a lot more. The dealer claims this is normal and I am noticing it more because of the black paint. Is anyone else having an issue? I am worried this is a bigger problem.
Yes, i have a black GT2, same issue

Most of my paint ships showed up before I hit 1000 miles. I put 800 miles on in the first three days of ownership, noticed the paint chips after the first wash after I returned from my trip.
My headlight rub showed up with sub 1000 as well. I had PPF installed on entire front end at 72 miles (distance from dealer to home to shop and including the test drive i did in it). My rear doors just this past weekend started showing the tiny flakes as well and am currently at 6500 miles.

Yikes. So it was under the PPF or at the edge?

just past the edge of the PPF. there is about 5mm of space that is not covered and its all peeled. The PPF edge is actually limiting further migration of the peel.

oh man, that sucks. I'm truly sorry. What are you going to do? I have booked to have PPF installed on 9/25, but this kind of thing makes me wonder. A. it could help long term, but B. could be wasted money if it has to get peeled off for a repaint

So I got a call from my service adviser today. There is no yellow primer locally for them to redo my car.

I am taking the opportunity to try to find some black badges that can be delivered here within a reasonable time frame so they can replace the chrome script I have (had?) on the rear of my car.

Oh dam....... How long will you have to wait and be without your car until they can get it done?

2 to 3 weeks from when they get the primer I guess.

That'll be 2+ months they have had it if it reaches into the 3 week mark.
