I'm trying to keep my mods off the interwebs too many know it all's and dobbers.

Then I see a video like this and want to video my races

Too words.......brand snobs.

Not everybody has Audi money but of course on the Internet all you have to do is work harder and you should be able to afford the world. All while paying cash for your car and also affording 10k in mods. Audi, BMW, Mercedes are nice, much nicer than our Stingers but they cost a ton to start and that's just the basic trim and as an owner of a Mercedes, maintenance costs are a nightmare.

From interior to exterior to high performance - everything you need for your Stinger awaits you...
I service my Merc myself , i got a price for everything possibly needed at 124000kms from a Mercedes Stealership and it was north of $11k
I did it all myself for less than $3k and realised working on a Merc was easier than on any Ford I have owned.
I am now at 162000km's and I love this thing.

This KIA however has me worried because I have been reading about it for years .. and people are still asking the same old questions and arguing amongst each other who is better...
If I had bought a Stinger in 2018 it would have had heads ported/ custom cams and probably a stroker crank lol by now...
But yet I still cannot decide on the ecu I want to control this thing from overboost...

*sigh*

Haha, I always heard Mercedes cars were built to be worked on.

With how things are looking I'd say the new sxth platform with one of the ek1 devices are gonna rise in popularity and take over a lot of the tuning done for the stinger. Tuners located in Korea may not join the platform because they have their own info they want to keep to themselves but Terry from BMS has already created some flashes for users with a jb4.

I'd look into it!

Similar size, aerodynamics, and displacement. Just shows you how conservative KIA's tune is.

The Audi/BMW engines have a higher ceiling, but for a daily driver tune, these results seem reasonable.

I consider $1,000 plus for a 30,000 miles service a nightmare of sorts and that's what it cost me last time, and it's just a kia.
I looked in my owner's manual, 2022 Kia Stinger GT1 and see no specific 30K mile service requirement. Even the severe useage data has very little. Don

Edited to add that I always do more preventive maintenance than required. I got a freebie oil change at 530 miles, did one by myself and in Jan 23 had a dealer do another. Now at 8850 miles. August, another dealer oil change.

This is the first car in 60 yrs that anyone besides me has done oil changes. Way too many fasteners in the underbody panels. A shoulder injury makes that unpleasant and the oil filter is funky. Don

Not specific, approximate. kia does a four tiered service schedule and c. every 30,000 miles is the big one that includes the other three plus a thorough going over of a bunch of stuff right down to the seatbelt anchors. it's labor intensive. I just think that a nearly fifty percent cost increase in the last couple of years is ridiculous for a kia.

You wanna buy a 2005 Mercedes e320 4 matic? Only got about 49k on it. Since you like working on Mercedes so much?

I decided after spending over $6000 in 3 years that I was done with the Mercedes and advised my son to look for a car with a 3800, arguably one of GM's most reliable motors. Easy to work on (had 4 of them) and most parts are still cheap.
It's definitely not as "nice" as the Benz but being able to be driven without constant maintenance is a plus.

No thanks but I may sell this Stinger and keep my ML351

Unreal ... so after driving around with stock airboxes for what seems like an eternity i refitted my K&N filters/pipes etc this morning and within 5mins after reaching operating temp it went into limp mode the first time i got it on boost !!!
I has never gone into limp mode with std airboxes and filters .
And it had no fault codes when i took it KIA last week.

I am at a loss ??

As much as i love the noise they are coming back off !

same here, and i was kinda shocked when i learned how stupid the Stinger oil changes are without a "trap door" in the belly pan for the drain plug. i had been using the Valvomax "easy" drain plug on previous cars and it worked great, but wouldn't have been much easier with the Stinger. i prefer to do oil changes myself mainly because i can do them whenever i want and no appointment needed, no time wasted driving to dealer, waiting, then driving home, and finally i know they're done right and not by some highschool kid with the attention span of a housefly.

i bought an oil extractor, so there's no need to remove the entire belly pan or need to change crush washers, or torquing the drain plug. still have to deal with the stupid cartridge oil filter, but its not that big of a deal.

i also have a bad shoulder, so i try to make stuff easier on myself if i can.

That's an expensive oil change.
These service intervals that (most, if not all) car makers put in their maintenance manual is nothing but a cash grab.
90% of the stuff listed as being necessary is prefaced by the word "inspect" or "check". You can check all that stuff yourself, for free.
Total BS, most of it.

Depends, having more frequent oil changes than mandated, is probably the best thing you can do to keep your car running right.

I asked two Kia dealership service managers, the one I bought it from and the one I get oil changes at, what oil change interval did they recommend on the 3.3 TT if I wanted to keep it running great? They both said 6 mo.

This Stinger is the only car I haven't and won't do oil changes on in 60 yrs. I did one, working over my head on the underbody covers etc isn't fun with a partial rotator cuff tear. I think the oil filter evolution is strange. Why not a screw on cannister oil filter?

yes, if you are into cars and know what your looking at. some of us are not blessed with the knowledge or the interest level to acquire it. the 'expensive oil change' included everything that they ever check and they do this one every approx 30,000 miles. that's a reason for the expensive inclusions but it should still be well under a thousand ima believing. covid gave everybody in business an excuse to jack prices way up.

I guess over the many years I've been driving cars, and some of the lessons I've learned in that time, I've gotten a bit skeptical and cynical when it comes to servicing cars. Dealers especially really make my hair standup.
I think we can all agree that they make more money on after sales service than they do on the actual sale of the vehicle. They have targets to maximize their profit.
I've been ripped off by both a private garage and a dealership that supposedly changed my oil and filter, when in fact they never touched the car. I never get an oil change done now where I cannot see it actually being done.
This routine of dropping off the car, then watching it disappear into the back somewhere while you wait in the lobby, doesn't work for me anymore.
Then there's the inevitable list of things that they magically find that should be done immediately, or your car will self destruct, is just infuriating. Stuff like telling me I need an air filter and a cabin filter, after I replaced both last week myself, is just the tip of the iceberg.

One other example: My Mazda 6 has cheap brakes and rotors (sound familiar?). Mazda rear brakes in particular are prone to early rust/corrosion, especially up here in Canadian winters.
The car was barely 2 years old, with only about 8,000 miles on it, and the rear brakes looked shot. I took it to the dealer, and they wouldn't do anything about it. Even Mazda Canada said tough poopoo. They said I needed a full rear brake job, and wanted to charge me the full price. No negotiation or even a goodwill price reduction. I walked out and never went back.
It is now almost 4 years later, I have 24,000 miles on it, and still have the original rear brakes on it. They don't look great, but they still work. I have ordered parts on line and have them in the garage. I'll do them myself before winter sets in.
Dealers....arrgggh

this ... for me, it was a long time ago, taking my winter beater to a local Firestone to have a leaky fuel filter replaced because i did not have time to do it myself. after 6 hours, they called to tell me it was done. drove there, paid for the service, and walked out to the parking lot to get in the car and go home. looked under the car, and the same rusty fuel filter was there dripping gasoline. went inside and asked the desk guy, "did you replace the fuel filter?"
"yes sir!"
"come with me - let's inspect your work ..."

ended up wasting WAY more time than if i had just done it myself.
