I had two Stingers. I bought my son a 2018 AWD GT1 and liked it so much I bought myself a GT2. My son wrecked his and pretty much toasted most of the body parts. Im sure there are some good parts but I just saw the car at the accident then the insurance company took it away.
I’m sure the motor and tranny are still OK and the interior is still fine. My question is I have the choice to by the car back for $7000. Any opinion on if I should keep it or let them take it.
I have no idea. The engine and tranny were perfect. The car was actually faster than mine. I have to decide by Monday.
thanks for any advice.

How old was your son?

Is It a total loss? I would assume so if they're giving the option to buy It back.

Depending on the cost of repair with the buy back included I'd just have it repaired If It's a vehicle I plan on keeping for a longtime.
Another option would be to part the vehicle out.
A 3.3T Kia engine in my area goes for as low 4,400 and somewhere north of 6,000.
You can also get a couple grand for the Transmission. This option is only If you want to deal with taking everything apart.

If there's already another vehicle available and you don't want to deal with any of the headache let them keep It.
They'll make their money either way.

got any pics? taking the engine off is a pain if you want to keep the wire harness intact.

I see that "the General" has already weighed in. This should be interesting ...:D

If you want to part it out, i doubt it would worth it. If you want to fix it, it is hard to say without seeing it.

Yes, pictures. We want to see the beautiful car.

Would you try and fix that? "The General" did! :)

He crashed it a year ago and it wasn’t totaled then but the repairs were $30,000. He was doing 115 mph in that one. After the repair the car was actually better than before. This time it would be a lot more to repair so it’s not worth it and I don’t think I would trust it after 2 major crashes. In NY it has to be registered as salvaged so the value goes down.
I’ve looked for seats for other cars and the prices are high so there is an opportunity to make some money. Just spent $1000 on tires for it.
If any

thats about the same damage as the first time he crashed. It was $30,000 to fix and came out fine. This time he rolled it so I know it’s not worth fixing. I guess I’ll just let them keep it. They do hold up well in high speed crashes. Got out both times with scratches.

How long did it take for him to get his license back after the 115 event?

Total the car, take the cash. You'll need it to pay the hefty insurance premium hike. Your son should buy their next car and insure it themselves.

Rollover? yeah, I wouldn't touch it. Crashed at 115 did he? I may have taken my honda wagon up to 140 in Mexico, I cant imagine crashing it at that speed. Guess that shows how much respect he has for daddy's money.

General Vodka? Why you don’t speed? 140 in a Honda wagon? Lucky it didn’t shake apart. The Stinger is made to go fast. Honda wagon is made for lots of soccer balls.
Sorry if your dad didn’t hug you.

Made to go fast? I wouldn't say that.

I have no clue how this went down but i hope the Dad bought new in 2018. If the son is 25 now he would have been roughly 22 back then. Maybe it was a college graduation gift?

I would really really really hope that the Dad isnt paying the sons insurance, rent, mortgage, food, utilities, etc. If so that is what is currently wrong with America. The younger generation just wants handouts and everything for free and Dad is giving in.

So Im really hoping it was something like a graduation gift and son is no longer on Dads dime. Lets hope anyway.
