is this kind of post ok?
dont read if you get triggered by negativity.

have a douche for a supervisor, who is intimidated by me because he can see my potential, is a narcissist-all day long talking about the things he has and everything is about him and he knows everything about anything.
us, who have been here for a few years, are struggling for jobs to keep us busy all day.
what does he do, hires a chick because he's infatuated with her and tries to bring her in our department and holds back jobs for her until she comes in leaving us twiddling our thumbs.
now them 2 just sit and talk for 2 hours at a time, not doing any work when she comes in.
its disgusting and hard to sit and listen to them go back and forth flirting. and he's married with kids, and this new girl totally knows how to play suck up and knows that he likes her.

have a guy who coughs all day long with short breaks in between because he smokes hella medical flower every night
and HR dont know or he'd be gone. he also does a monotone random whistle all day long, sounds like a broken flute.
talks to himself and makes weird mumbles to himself, and talks a lot of douchery with another guy about movie directors all day long like they are experts in the movie making business.

its so tiring doing this every day. i wish i worked for myself. ive always worked for douchebags and companies that lowball you in every possible way.
8 hrs is way too long to be here doing this shit every day.
fk, i could go on, theres so much more. i have no one to rant to, so sorry for putting negative stuff on here.

This is why I like to be the boss.

#1. No one works for/with me unless approved by me.

#2. I treat my employees how I want to be treated, and would never asked someone to do something I wouldn't do myself.

#3. I take care of my crew 100%. Dinner outings that includes family members, bonuses out of my own pocket, presents for no reasons(tools, bottles of bourbon, sunglasses, etc).

No way could I "work" for someone else. I did that for twenty years... Never again.

I was in your position about 15 years ago. Untill one day, i sad F... it, and walked out. I didn't have wife or kids at that moment, but still,It was scary. One of my best decisions. Have never worked for "the boss" since than. Not saying, you should do the same of course.

It aint just you homie....

thank you guys for all uplifting and understanding replies.

What is your field? If you're just looking for a friendly place to vent that's cool; we all have our own work horror stories, but if you want to share your field and your goals maybe someone can assist with referrals and/or job leads?

The market is super hot right now, at least in IT, and I just left a toxic workplace that was making me generally miserable and jumped a few rungs higher in the move.

It is amazing how a toxic workplace can cause one to have a bad attitude all around.

I totally agree. The ball is in the candidates court right now because there are more jobs than people. Sounds like a new opportunity is on your horizon. Best of luck!

I think most of us have experienced similar situations through our working life, the only advice I can offer after 46 years of working is that you go to work for yourself not them & no one wakes you up in the morning & takes you there, we all have choices & if the place is that bad maybe it’s time to move on & find a company that fits your personality.

I spent 25 years working for mostly reasonable bosses. I’ve been self employed for the last 10 years and now I find myself working for a real bastard of a man.

What a wonderful opportunity, perhaps? Most people quit a job because of their supervisor, not the company. If the owner of the company is good and the company likely has a path to success, then you need to do all you can to make your supervisor a success and do all the work and innovation you are allowed to do. Make yourself indispensable.

If the owner is bad and the company has little chance of success, then you need to get out of there - at your convenience. Be pleasant, positive and upbeat while you frantically search for the best other opportunity you can find. There are lots of great places, jobs and supervisors out there. Go find them. Good Luck.

In a different lifetime, I was a field tech for compusa. Everything was great for 2 years until the tech dept mgr left for greener pastures. Hitler came. Within several months almost the entire crew left, self included.
