• PLEASE! It is VERY important that this area is not used for the discussion of technical issues with your Stinger. This section is for posting about regional-specific things like Stinger clubs, events, local vendor or dealer recommendations, KiaStinger.com member sightings, etcetera... In other words, I do NOT want people to need to scour through several different sections to find answers about their heads up display. That's why there's a section dedicated specifically to discussions like that. THANK YOU!

Wireless Apple Car Play

It’s the Car2play. I updated my IPhone 11 to the latest software yesterday. It’s really weird. I did send an email to the company that I bought it from so hopefully they will suggest a fix. We will see.

Stupid question perhaps but anybody know what the other end of the device is for? The other USB port? BTW, I’ve still not heard from the seller yet. Of course, they were very quick in responding to my questions before I bought the device...

I have the same USB port in the rear of my Carlinkit 2.0, I assume it is there so you can piggyback your phone to charge it if needed.
It’s the way of the world these days, companies are all over you to buy, send surveys on “how did we do“ but when you have a problem try & get in touch with anyone for help.

Yes, I think you are correct. When I connect my phone, I get nothing. I don’t think there is any power in the Carplay2air device.

Well I have been in regular email contact with the company who has been asking me to try this and that, but all to no avail. The upshot is they have asked me to send it back and they will issue a replacement. The way I see this, it appears that this will be at my own cost as well!
I must admit that I haven’t tried it in another car, so will see if I can borrow a friend’s Car Play for 5 mins. However, I suspect it is the device and not the car.

i just ordered a 1ft.cable from amazon and my iPhone 11 lays down nicely and all JB4 gauges are readable. the Wireless may be handy, but unless you have the built-in wireless charging (which i don't), you can't charge the phone without the cable.

Just bought a carlinkit ver 2 both for my wife and myself off of Aliexpress for like $90/each shipped.

Just got both of my kits today from Aliexpress so between 2-3 weeks. Not too bad i guess. Hooked up one to the Stinger and it fired right up had no issues. Plugged in the second one to my wife’s 19 VW Tiguan and couldn’t get her phone to sync up for a few minutes, but figured out that I had the carlink device in the wrong USB port for carplay to activate (smh). Swapped the USB port and it fired right up.
i did notice that it’s a little touchy about killing the radio (sirius radio) when I bring up carplay. Easy fix to hit the radio button and then back to carplay, but it didn’t do that before so I just have to get use to it. No biggy.

Sounds good. I had to send my device back to China. They have apparently sent a replacement. Hopefully it will work next time around.

Hi, sorry, I thought I’d responded to the last note. Mine is the Carplay2air...I have actually just received the replacement and all seems fine (fingers crossed things stay that way). I must say that the customer service I received was excellent.

Good to hear...:thumbup:

Only works wireless if you have an iPhone, if you are an Android fan like me.. there is not a wireless dongle available yet, you still have to Plug it in..

Pumbaa, I backed the AAWireless campaign on Indiegogo, scheduled to arrive December (here is a link: AAWireless) - will let you know how it goes!

Got an e-mail from the cplay2air folks today. Not sure if there are any benefits for existing cars but I'm going to inquire about the manual update process.

Good news! At the beginning of the month we launched a new firmware release for the CPLAY2air adapter which now supports these brands that we personally tested:
  • Land Rover;
  • Jaguar;
  • Nissan;
  • Honda, including Accord and others;
  • Mercedes-Benz the newest MBUX 2020 system with USB-C (requires additional adapter from USB-A to USB-C);
  • Audi 2020;
  • If you have a USB-C system, it requires an additional adapter from USB-A to USB-C.
We are certain it supports more brands but due to the current worldwide situation, we couldn't test them all. If you have a CPLAY2air adapter and not compatible vehicle, please send us an email at support@carplay2air.reamaze.com for manual update instructions on Windows PC, or you can update the firmware online on a compatible car.

All CPLAY2air adapters purchased from the 4th of November include a new firmware release, you can purchase a CPLAY2air adapter here

Please do not reply to this email as we will not get your email, use the support@carplay2air.reamaze.com instead.

Thank you and have a great day!

Hi,
Yes, I received the same email. I would be interested to hear what the benefits are, if any.
Cheers.

I updated my cplay2air yesterday. Never had any issues with it so haven’t noticed any changes as yet.

I have had two recurrent issues with my cplay2air adapter:
  • I am unable to transmit diagnostic data to Kia via UVO
  • CarPlay will randomly disconnect and then reconnect 30 to 60 seconds later
I thought it might be a UVO or iOS problem but I can't reproduce either issue when I am wired. It feels like the adapter is rebooting. The disconnects are infrequent but can be jarring. And also, if you are depending on CarPlay for navigation, that can be a major issue. The diagnostic issue is consistent. Cannot diag wirelessly ever.

Guys, in case you are interested there is current BF offer here CPLAY2air wireless adapter for factory CarPlay on CARPLAY2air.com . Was thinking of ordering one as well. Any lag with the calls?
Just stumbled across this thread and your link to the Black Friday sale. Placed an order, saved a few $$ thanks. Let’s hope it works as well as advertised.
Oh and I scored free standard shipping to Australia which is a bonus as we usually get slugged ridiculous shipping fees so might be an option to buy during the sale for any other Aussie forum members.

I haven’t had any issues with calls, it seems to be fine. The device does disconnect itself now and then but reconnects pretty quickly.
