So first day after I get my car of course we get seven inches of snow I went to lift up the wiper blades to clean the snow off and it seems like the arm hits the hood and prevents it from going up without scratching the paint. Any idea what's going on with this? I already made a small chip and don't want to make it worse.

I mean if you consider holding up on a wiper stock for 2 seconds "getting out the nuclear football and getting congressional approval" then I guess so.
This is a "feature" that is common place in the German auto world since around 2010.. I get the need to tuck them lower to be more aerodynamic but it is a pain of you forget to set them at the maintenance position before it freezes if you are parking in a non covered location.
