Will a tuned 2.0 ever approach stock 3.3 power?

Pretty much what the title says. Been reading a ton on this site and rarely come across folks who even tune their 2.0s, much less provide any kind of performance numbers afterward. Saw one guy still getting 6s 0-60 times after a chip, which makes you wonder what the point even was (maybe it feels better to him, which is all that matters I guess). I get that the easy answer is "get a GT", but I've got a Base already that I do enjoy, I just want to know if going down the mod path is worth it for the 2.0. I saved probably $8-9k minimum going w/ New Base vs New GT, so if I can throw back in $2-3k and get back a lot of power I lost in that decision, that would be awesome. My suspicion is you can't even get close, and that's fine, just want more experienced opinions.

You will never get to GT power levels unless you do a big turbo upgrade. I dont even know if there are bigger turbo options for the 2.0 yet.

That being said you could get pretty close to a Stock GT power level. Start by getting a JB4, Intake and exhaust. I have not seen many aftermarket parts for the 2.0 yet.

But honestly the real answer is you should of got a "GT" if performance was what you wanted.

The JB4 will be the best performance mod you can do to the 2.0.

Hope this helps.

Keep in mind the 3.3 is underrated so the gap is bigger than advertised.

I really just wondered if folks had direct experience w/ modding the 2.0 and some numbers to back it up. If it can only get up to say Mustang Ecoboost type numbers (310hp stock I think?), that might still be worth it assuming the mods req'd aren't too expensive. I'm a patient dude, so if I have to wait a couple years and then upgrayedd to the GT, then I'll enjoy my 2.0 in the meantime. Thanks for the input.

Check out the Optima forums. They've had the 2.0 for longer and in far greater numbers. They've done a lot more 2.0t modding than anything you'll find here.

That's a good suggestion. Do you have any specific ones you recommend/trust?

No, it's been years since I've been on one. Just pick the first one that Google pops up. Sonata and Veloster forums should have some good info as well.

I have a JB4 on my GT and I absolutely love it. Its only like $479 I believe and its worth every dollar.

I believe Khartuners has intakes for the 2.0. Its like $300.

These 2 mods alone will make a huge difference on your car right now and when you decide to sell you car, you can sell those parts here on the forum.

I've thrown in $1.4k on the base stinger, JB4, Intake, BOV. I've seen a massive boost in power. Stock I was seeing low to mid 7's in the 0-60, now I'm seeing 0-60 times in the high 5's. It's a completely different car then it was stock. I don't ever see it beating a stock GT, but I'll keep trying :)

Thanks for the links @Angel, JB4 would definitely be tops on my list if I decide to go down the mod path.

@Yemen you're the first one I've seen to quote 5s 0-60, so that's heartening to hear. I'm dubious on the merits of an intake vs drop-in filter, many say it doesn't matter, many say intake is the way to go. Considering I'm not looking to eek every single hp out of it, I'll probably stick w/ the drop-ins for now. That being said, like I told Angel above, I think JB4 is going to be the first purchase after I've made up my mind on modding or not. May do an exhuast after that if I can find one that doesn't sound like a fart in a can and doesn't drone.

@Yemen, one more thing I meant to ask - I feel some pretty hefty turbo lag on the stock 2.0L engine at low RPM even in Sport mode, did you feel the same about stock and did the JB4 alleviate that?

Turbo lag is still the one thing that I've continued to have a problem with. I'm looking to buy the BMS pedal tuner to try and make the throttle response sharper.

That's unfortunate, getting rid of the lag is definitely one of the main reasons I'd want to mod it in the first place. If you do take the pedal tuner plunge, let me know how it feels!

If the 2.0 follows the same suit as the Optimas like Kamauxx said they will be able to beat out stock stinger gts. There are a few running mid 12s and a couple that just posted 12.1 times with upgraded turbos.

But with the amount of money you would have to spend you might as well sell the base now and just get into a gt lol.

Wow, that's pretty cool. Yeah, I'd consider up to $2k on mods reasonable and reason to keep the 2.0L, but only if it could get me maybe halfway to the stock GT levels. If it can't, I'll just enjoy it for what it is and wait to get a GT later (I upgrayedded from an old Silverado, so the Stinger is loads more comfortable/fun to drive).

Not many people have modded their 2.0's, I'm curious to see what their 0-60 times are.

with 2 grand i think you can get pretty damn close. JB4, Intakes, Exhaust, and slap a meth kit on there :D You are right there.
