Wide variation on KIA installed Remote Starter price, go aftermarket?

I went with the DroneMobile platform w/ CompuStar brain. It was a little pricey ($700 all-in), but it's fobless (integrated into the stock key w/ 3-lock-press to start) and it has an LTE module so it can be started, locked/unlocked, and have the heated/cooled seats and steering wheel started from an app, remotely, from anywhere.

Haven't got into a hot car in months. Best money I've ever spent.

You definitely got a lot of features, especially for not having an extra fob.

But all I was looking for was an inexpensive solution for simple Winter warm ups. Good luck!

I received quote of 1100 for all that.

My car buddies drive pony cars, muscle cars, sports cars, classics, etc., and they all agreed I made the right decision going with the aftermarket remote.

They also got a good chuckle hearing some Stinger owners were replacing/deleting their badges. lol

Whats that supposed to mean?
Im not quite sure what you are inferring there, but does come across that Stinger owners are badge snobs.
Everyone changes their wheels, the engine components, exhaust etc to style their car to their personal taste just like your buddies most likely have. Changing badges are exactly the same. If kia had come up with a better looking logo most would probably have left it alone but in this case the Kia logo is a bit dated and drab. I have decided to keep mine only for the fact im worried that there may be paint damage if the badges are removed. I like you am proud to say its a Kia. Changing a badge or removing it is nothing to chuckle about and quite frankly you are attracting alot of flack by saying that as it appears to us that you are laughing at those that do.
You are entitled to your opinion however but be prepared for comments from those who dont agree with yours.

Ultrastart is working great!

Do aftermarket systems install in the same place under/behind the glove box and kick panel on the passenger side?

I have the factory remote start already, but plan to swap it for aftermarket. Curious if I need to remove it myself or if the installer will do that.

I sat in the customer waiting room while it was installed, have no idea where it went. lol

Why don't you like the factory remote starter?

I have Nustart with app and fob, can turn on defrosters and heated seats.. Great so far. I also sat in the waiting room when installed, so have no idea where it went in at.

According to the installer, at least for the compustar/dronemobile stuff, they hook into the existing wiring for the factory remote start system and piggy back off of that, so it'd go in the same places the factory one would go.

Were you quoted it from an official dealer (Find an Authorized DroneMobile Dealer | DroneMobile)? Try to look around for some others in your area, you should be able to get it a bit cheaper.

I did try all official ones in my area. I already have OEM one installed but since I wanted to keep the car long term I started looking at other options. But I am no longer planning to keep the car beyond lease.
