Hello from Idaho, glad to have found a forum to help me on my journey in building my 2018 Stinger gt awd to the full potential it can be. Currently I have installed HKS blow off valves and K&N typhoon performace intake system, nothing to special right now in upgrades, but I'm now looking in making more steps to gain power and begin the bigger journey, So I was wondering if anyone would be willing to give me their feedback on what kits as far as plug and plays they have installed. I've heard good on both ends for jb4 and also race chip but thats all I can find as far as a chips or tunes go that alot people use for their stinger . So feedback and advice is much appreciated thanks everyone.

Welcome to the forum! I have a 2018 GT2 AWD with the JB4. I also have the K&N intakes. I don't have any experience with Race Chip though. The install and usage of the JB4 system has been easy and definitely adds a ton more power. It is quite easy to diagnose issues as there are active members on the forum here that can assist you with your map logs and any other diagnosis. I can stand behind the JB4 system 100%. If you go that route, the bluetooth option with the fuel wires is the way to go. I have easy access to E85 pump gas near me so I regularly use that and run map 5 to have a bit more fun than usual. The install only takes about 30 mins your first time. It is advised that you do remove it for any dealer visits. It is also highly suggested you either regap your spark plugs to the recommended specification or buy new spark plugs and regap those also. There are quite a few DIY's on both the JB4 install and the spark plug swap. The spark plug swap will take you a decent chunk of time the first time as getting access to a couple of the plugs are a PITA. Good luck and enjoy increase in power!

Thank you so much :) I've done alot of reading on both just want to hear sides on how they both have been preforming , and I know about the plugs I should've asked that as well, what brand are you using ? And the jb4 has a tune to run e85 ?! hmm thats definitely got me more interested now.

I use the HKS plugs, If you order from K8Stingerstore, you can get the JB4+bluetooth and add the plugs also. Yeah, there are a decent amount of maps that all increase power with different levels of octane all the way up to Methanol injection which is supported also. If you want to take advantage of the ability for the JB4 to adjust parameters (using E85 or even race fuel) on the fly you have to get the fuel wires installed which will come with the JB4. That is pretty simple and I highly recommend buying the PNP fuel wire adapters which will save your factory wire harness from having to be spliced into and again make it simple to pull it off for dealer visits.

I went the Racechip route since I knew I would not be going mod crazy with this car since this is a daily car and I already have another fun car. I bought the racechip used off of another forum member for almost 1/2 the cost. Swapped the plugs and installed it. Works great.

I talked to the prior owner of the Racechip Since he went to JB4 and he said there was not as much of a difference between the two at his current mod level.

The main difference you have to ask yourself is how mod crazy you are going to go with the car. If you are going to do intake and cat back then racechip may be just fine for you. If you want to go intercooler, bigger turbo, full exhaust, and ekk out as much power as you can then JB4 is probably your answer.

The JB4 is a better and safer tune even at the lowest settings. It costs a little more, but it's worth it. And it holds it's value a lot better than any of the other tuning systems out due to our frequent firmware updates and ongoing support.

I'll verify what  he said and add that yes the after purchase support is heads and tails above what you would see in any industry. Covers the cost of the product in no time flat:thumbup::)

I'd second the opinion above. Certainly, we Racechip users are in the minority here. For me, it was very quick & simple to install and delivered a noticeable performance increase. As for support, I can't comment, as I haven't needed any in the year that I've been running my Racechip.

I have a RaceChip, K&N intake, MBRP exhaust and HKS plugs. It's been great for me. Lots of extra power, simple install, free phone app and no downside. I thought about a JB4 but where I am the RaceChip was a lot cheaper. I haven't had to use their support as it was all plug-and-play and worked fine. I also added the XLR throttle controller which also worked great.

Just curious as to where you mounted the throttle controller? I take it you feel the XLR was worth the money?

Anything with the word "chip" in it is a huge red flag, and while Racechip isn't the worst option, the red flag remains.

Things to consider here are as follows.
1. Generally speaking, the most popular option is so for a very good reason, its the best option, and that is far and away the JB4.
2. Functionality. While Racechip gives you some power increases, the JB4 gives you multiple map options, and user adjustments not found on any other platform, Like real time logging etc.
3. Community involvement and support. While Terry @ BMS is active on countless forums, hes constantly here, and on the FB group supporting the community. Racechip is no where to be found, and have added very little, if anything, to our community.
4. Actual research and development. Racechip adjusts boost levels like the JB4 does, but their actual research and time spent testing the product on our platform is nominal at best. Burger has spent hundreds of hours on the platform, and also provides us with other parts like intercoolers, intakes, bovs, drivetrain braces, and catch cans, Race chip does not.

Call me biased if you want, but when I owned my Golf R JB4 was a popular option in that community that I refused to use because there were unlocked ECU tune options. When I moved over to the stinger, I did the research and quickly found that jb4 was miles ahead of anyone else, and at half the price of the next closest competitor (lap3).

Those are all valid points but I think the main reason people choose Racechip is because, similar to your last point, a used one can be had for less than half the price of the JB4. That and they make it super easy to install and use where the JB4 is more of a learning curve.

No offence :cautious: but I believe you missed the point of the last point:whistle:. The point being lap3 is the only competitor to JB4 and it's twice the price. RC isn't a competitor!:( The point you are making is that the racechip buyer is looking for something on the cheap and really doesn't care:sleep: about ultimate performance, support for said performance or development of future performance enhancements. That's ok because the rc buyer gets something that contributes to the overall smile:) and is more affordable:thumbup:. But it's no competitor:thumbdown:

It's definitely a competitor. Aren't we comparing the two here? They both increase the HP and TQ numbers providing similar gains (with the exception of WMI) and are both piggyback's. Yes one offers more features, better support, etc but it's also a lot more expensive. There is also a reason why BMS compares the two right on their own website, they're a competitor:

JB4 Frequently Asked Questions

Not really sure the JB4 is that much more expensive either. JB4 is $479 (+$35 for laptop cable or +$175 for smart phone wireless), Lap3Pro is $1195, and the cheapest RaceChip is $349. While the JB4 is more than the cheapest RaceChip it's cheaper than the most expensive RaceChip.

A New Racechip GTS Black with app control is $500 right now as they're frequently on sale. Used ones can be found for half of that. And the only way i'd buy a Racechip is if it was used. I'd go JB4 if I was going to buy new because you're right, the price points are pretty close.
