hi guys

which fuse is best to tap into for front dashcam power? I dont want a constant 12V, just power when ignition is on (eg I wont be using park mode recording).

Looking at the fuse box, there are two "20A Power Outlet" fuses there, I assume one is for front the other one rear ?

Can I use one of those using a simple fuse tap wire and use 20A fuses ?

cheers

Yes, use the 20A Power Outlet which is switched power.

My dash cam uses 5v mini usb connector. I just ran a cable along the headliner, around the pass door, under the rear right pass foot area to a 12v to dual 2A usb adapter/charger. It's all relatively unintrusive and barely noticeable.

I chose to go with the interior lamp fuse, which turns on earlier and off later.

Basically turns on when I unlock the car, and it turns off after I have walked away from the parked car.

Taping into this fuse has allowed my dashcam to capture the entire service, the few times my car was at the dealer getting warranty replacement brake disks.

Turns off some seconds or minutes after alarm is armed/doors are locked.

I incorrectly plugged mine into the slot below what I circled in post #2 and dashcam ran 24/7.

For those who want constant power also for parking mode which fuse should be tapped?
I tapped directly into the white wire in the center power harness (main fuse box) that provides power to the passenger compartment.

Hello there guys! I hope you're well. I initially connected the parking mode to the internal lighting fuse, but it seems it doesn't work.
Would there be any objection in connecting the parking mode to the stop light fuse, and the normal functioning fuse, to the internal charger? Is that too dodgy?

The internal lighting fuse turns on when the car is unlocked, and off when you lock the car (it also times out of you don't lock the car). This is a GREAT fuse to tap for your switched power for the dashcam.

Post #7 tells you a good spot to tap full time power.

What do you.mean by "normal functioning fuse"? And what's an internal charger?

Hi D.J., and thanks for your message. To answer your question, for the normal functioning fuse, I meant the switched fuse that release power when the car is on. I know, what a weird way to call it (normal functioning! -facepalm-). And for the internal charger, my owner's book call the position that I thought was mentioned in post #7, charger. I've just realised that the position mentioned in post #7, is actually the fuse below and on the left, from the one circled in post #2. That does work for me too now. Thank you!

I hooked mine up to the door lock for VCC and the washer for ACC. It's a 22 Stinger

What I tapped into with a reference. The interior lamp for only when the car is on. The brake lights (stop lamp) for the parking mode that always has power.

Has anyone tapped into the rear view mirror power for a dashcam? Seems like it would be a tidy option
With the FitCamX that I got, they did provide taps for tapping into the harness at the rear-view mirror, which some said were tight fitting underneath the bezel, but it looks like a clean fit. The only issue with it is that the rear-view mirror loses power when the car is off, so if your camera of choice has something like a G-sensor to turn the camera on when someone tries to break in or hits your car while parked, you'll need to tap an always-on power source, which is why I used the brake lights (stop lamp in the photos above).
