WHAT PLUGS ARE YOU RUNNING WITH YOUR JB4

Lol I guess but there must be 2 brands that work better than stock. Especially if using a few bolt ons and jb4.

Took the plunge and ordered the JB4 and HKS spark plugs. Part #M45IL. Received the plugs in the mail, just waiting on the tune. Says it'll be in tomorrow.

I'll probably put them in the weekend as I won't have much time through the week. I've never went this in depth with a car that is under warranty. I pray my skills pull through this time LOL I shouldn't have issues. Might take 3 hours but I'm more than okay with that since I'll be going slow.

Question, anyone put their Stinger on a dyno before and after the spark plug install? Any gains?

Probably won't see any gains from plugs. It's more of a stability/durability mod. Unless your stock plugs where absolutely full trash but then you will probably notice that.

At best a little better throttle response.

Tork picked up 10 hp after installing hks40's.

I noticed an immediate change in throttle response. Power is minimal, as the dyno shows.

Yes indeed.

Good info to have!

Installed plugs and tune. What a difference this makes the car. I'm experimenting with different maps. So far, I've been able to determine the following:

Map 1: No hesitation, good power.
Map 2: Haven't tried.
Map 3: Mainly running this map since this is what a majority of the owners are using. I have a slight upshift hesitation from 1st to 2nd and 2nd to 3rd sometimes. Hardly noticeable, but noticeable. After third, shifts how it should.
Map 4: Haven't tried.
Map 5: Tried once, ran through two gears, pulled well.

Haven't been above 5. With only drop in K&Ns and plugs, what map are you guys using that is giving you the best results?

Um there are certain requirements for running higher maps. It's not just that each map magically adds 10hp.... Not a piggyback user but even I know that. Map 5 requires meth, and other map is only for full bolt on users. Anything higher than map3 needs 93 oct fuel or something. Did you not read the manual?

I suggest logging map1 with 93 octane as a start. If all is good, log map 2. If all is good there log map 3. If needed or recommended by BMS, increase octane and relog. I prefer boostane. As for the other maps, I don't have experience with. Same goes for fuel wires. Enable/disable according to afr attained.

We know it's not magic, magic doesn't exist. Your reply didn't answer the question I had. I was seeing what others have been using and the best results they are getting. As I previously stated, I only have plugs and drop in K&Ns. I can run through the maps no problem; one pull isn't going to blow to car up. Instinct comes in when not pushing too much, hence me only doing a pull or two on map 5.

I'll check out the logging when the weather is nice. She's a garage queen during inclement weather

I got the BMS 450 Wheel Horsepower KIA Stinger Package with the Denso plugs which I gapped at 0.022, as recommended. Replacing the plugs took some effort; probably the most work out of this whole install. Did anyone manage to do this without removing the manifold cover? The OCC took about 5mins to install and I'll get the JB4 and intakes installed next week, after I take the car to dealer for a recall rewire!

The spark plugs can be done without removing the manifold cover with the right swivels and extensions. I haven't tried it yet but a few people have had luck doing it.

Yeh, I saw a YouTube video from Vivid Visual saying he managed to replace the plugs without removing the manifold cover but they didn't show any of the steps, so who knows. For the life of me, I couldn't get my tools into the tight spaces and believe me I have a ton of tools and adaptors.

Got mine replaced for the second time without removing the manifold. Took an hour and a half to get all 6 in. The driver side took twenty minutes, tops.

One run can certainly do permanent damage, just running all the maps without even looking into what's required is a recipe for disaster if you ask me lol

Read this and be careful...

Map 0: JB4 disabled
Map 1: 4psi over stock peak tapering to 2.5psi at high RPM. Default performance map suitable for all 91+ octane fuels.
Map 2: 5psi over stock tapering to 4psi at high RPM. Suggested for 93+ octane fuel.
Map 3: 6psi stock tapering to 5psi at high RPM. Suggested for high quality fuel including unleaded race gas, ethanol mixtures up to 30%, or high quality octane booster like Torco or Boostane.
Map 4: Up to 7psi over stock. For use with unleaded race fuel and/or E85 mixtures up to 30%.
Map 5: Up to 7psi over stock but without top end taper. For unleaded race fuel use and bolt on modifications. May not be suitable for E85 mixtures due to high fuel pressure dropping. If using this map on E85 you should be experienced at reading your own logs and evaluating ignition advance and fuel pressure.
Map 6: User adjustable map. Enter value of boost over stock by RPM on user adjustment page.
Map 7: Progressive WMI (water/meth) map. Increases boost as a function of methanol flow & methanol boost additive. Holds boost low until WMI is flowing to avoid tip-in knock, and reduces boost as a function of WMI flow in the event of interruption like running out of fluid, leak, or component failure.
Map 8: Valet map, runs around half as much boost as stock

If you are new to the "tuning" game, even JB4, by all means, don't go above map2 without "confirming" that everything is running as expected (log, log, log, and then after they are checked, log again). I used the HKS plugs and although they were gapped, they were not in the range that was recommended so i had to confirm the correct gap BEFORE installing them and doing runs especially when using the JB4.......don't skimp on this requirement as well as the fuel requirements. Misfires, spent coils, this you will get (little Yoda there....). Worst case, bad engine damage. Do the little things up front and your hard earned money will be well spent.....

@PatriotOne the trick is to pull the rubber boot from the coil, it will separate and you can then remove the plug. Second tip, use 2 (TWO) swivels to get at plug three. third tip... DO no use a magnetic socket or one with a rubber inter grommet. IT will stiick to the plug and keep you from pulling out your conglomeration of extensions and swivels. Just use a regular socket and after tightening it will pull right out of the cylinder.
